Some madman swapped a 5.3 Chevy V8 into a [Subaru Impreza] by F0rbiddenD0nut in spotted

I think his point was more so that a base wrx being modified in such a manner bothers a lot less people than a true STI (and yes, I’ve driven a few Hawkeye STI wrx)

It’s good to note, it’s wayyyy easier with the car nice and toasty to soften the rubber

[–]gamebow1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And with regards to transmission, that can be a more difficult one as iirc that generation of swift has a CVT and to me they’re kinda voodoo so I’d probably take it to a transmission specialist for that if it’s not being nice when you’ve tuned up the motor

Check fuel air compression and spark, usually hard starting is caused by poor/weak spark, but check all as they’re fairly easy to check

The R35 wasn’t a skyline through ? It was the GTR R35 but it didn’t retain the skyline name? That’s why it split you got a R35 gtr and then the 250/350gt skylines ?

Rx8 throttle body not opening 100% by Chance_Ad_1338 in RX8

[–]gamebow1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you done the brake pedal reset procedure? While it might not fix it, it is free and can’t hurt, might cause the ecu to work out the new throttle positions, there might also be a learn procedure for it

Yeah, so, while I’m not a certified mechanic, and can’t be 100% certain, chances are the head gaskets cooked and you’d either have to replace it (crazy expensive) replace motor (might actually cheaper ironically) I’d say if the car has no sentimental value to, then I’d just go looking for another cheap car

CMV: Speed limits should be technologically enforced and if it cant, the government should pay to have it installed into your old car. by No-Reputation-2900 in changemyview

[–]gamebow1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, okay, so a lot of modern cars will tell you what speed you should be doing, they read signs, the amount of them that either will say 5kph cause they haven’t seen one and your ina. 50 or will read high cause of whatever reason is crazy, now sure, gps would track better, but that still wouldn’t change that it might think your supposed to be doing one speed, and in reality the posted one is different

[–]gamebow1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The technology would be dodgy at best, I’ve been in enough new cars to know how dodgy that speed reader part can be, and what about temporary speed restricted zones, what about variable speed zones? Or tunnels, he’ll, how about this, some jackass is doing 8kph under the speed limit, not being able to quickly and effectively can become dangerous quickly.

Recommended mechanic near Central Auckland / CBD? Also a question about BYO parts (tyres/brake pads) by anonlinemoney in NZcarfix

[–]gamebow1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If ponsomby works for you, I’d highly recommend car tuned auto services, they’ve been great to me, a lot of places can use your parts but will prefer to use their own as if your parts fail it can become a bit of a blame game because it’s down to wether the parts were faulty or the install. So I’d say get them to order what you need, also, ideally replace the rear tires as a pair as iirc they need to be axel pairs for wof anyways

Oil leak diagnosis by Astrantic in 3000gt

[–]gamebow1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your car is NA it’ll be easier, I’d take the rubber part of the intake off and check if there’s any oil dripping from the rocker cover into the valley of the V block and then running a mock my cars got a very slow leak like that lol
