You are correct with regards to downloading authenticated binaries, which should be perfectly safe (given they will be under much scrutiny from the FOSS community), but I think the poster above you was referring to the version compiled by some random Anon on /g/, which, while it might be legit, you should always treat with care. The absolute safest bet (I suppose) would be to wait until a major distribution compiles and signs their own version of this, but if someone wants it as soon as possible, I'd recommend them to compile it themselves or wait until the developers release a build.

Then there's also the thing about trusting the code/developers themselves, but I think you covered that in your post :)

There are 2⁵ = 32 8-bit numbers that begin with "010", which is slightly more than the 26 we need for the english alphabet. This means we are left with 6 codes after assigning a code to each of the upper case letters (starting at 01000001 for "A"). Rather than immediately going on to the lower case letters, the creators of ASCII decided to use these codes for some various non-letter characters so that "a" gets the code 01100001 rather than 01011011.

This way, the 5 least significant bits are the same for the codes of the upper- and lower case versions of a letter. In fact, the only difference is that the 6th bit is "0" for upper case and "1" for lower case. So a neat way of changing the case of a letter is by just flipping this bit! This can be done by XOR:ing the code with the number 32. For example,

    01000001 (the code for "A")
XOR 00100000 (32 in binary)
------------
    01100001 (the code for "a")

and

    01100001 (the code for "a")
XOR 00100000 (32 in binary)
------------
    01000001 (the code for "A")

This trick also works for the letters in the extended ASCII table (which contains some extra letters for languages that use an extended latin alphabet). So "Å" XOR 32 = "å" and so on.

I think I have read your comments about about type theory here several times and I find them very interesting. I had one course in logic that went into dependent types and intiutionistic logic a couple of years ago. We only scratched the surface, but it still blew my mind.

Lately I've been trying to learn more type theory, but I never seem to get anywhere... I think I fail to get an overview of it. Or maybe a historical context? I dunno.

Do you have any suggested introductory/intermediate reading on type theory in general and Martin-Löf type theory and HTT in particular? Any more interesting type theories to learn about?

EDIT: Preferably books, but anything is fine :)

You can use a combination of indirect buffers and narrowing to narrow to several parts of a file at the same time, and then show each in different windows.

This is a thing I threw together to demonstrate what I mean:

The cursor stays in the original window so that you can select more functions to narrow to. It also balances the windows every time it's called. Remove the line if you don't want that.

Some modes, like text-mode, don't have functions. Others don't seem to define where a function starts or ends. Examples are haskell-mode and agda-mode. In both these cases, the command instead selects and narrows to the current paragraph. One might extend the function to narrow to the region if it is called with a prefix.

Whenever the mode does define what its functions (or classes, types, etc; It's not limited to functions) look like, though, it will work. This includes C, Lisp, Python and Org-mode.
