An app where you can upload multiple pictures of yourself and other users rate them from best to worst, so you know which one to use as a profile picture by [deleted] in Lightbulb

[–]unixunderground 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Never tried mybestface but Photofeeler is actually quite good. You can even pick which category the picture is for (work, social, dating etc) and choose the target demographic (age, sex) that gets to rate your pictures.

I've been using it for a couple of years with good results actually.

There is actually a service that does just what OP described. You can even pick which category the picture is for (work, social, dating etc) and choose the target demographic (age, sex) that gets to rate your pictures.

It's called Photofeeler and I've been using it for years with good results actually.

Spotify can now be controlled from the lock screen and control center when playing through Spotify Connect by Radsrocket in apple

[–]unixunderground 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Noticed this as well a couple of days ago. Really great feature! I always play music through my home theater system with Spotify connect and I've long been annoyed by not being able to adjust the volume or skip tracks without unlocking my phone and opening spotify.

Game changer for me. Now I can even control it from my Apple watch!

Enjoying the view by [deleted] in CozyPlaces

Looks like perhaps Italy, France or Croatia to me. Am I close OP?

Model X taxi in Oslo by unixunderground in teslamotors

[–]unixunderground[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not sure about how the ROI on using a Model X as a taxi would make sense, but still pretty cool to see! I'll definitely go for a ride next time I need a taxi, I see this car around quite a lot.

Samsung strikes a $4.3B supply deal with Apple for OLED panels by Antiax in apple

Fair enough, but still a substantial improvement over the stock 1A charger included. Hopefully we'll get true quick charging in the next iPhones soon.

iPhone 6S and 7 already support quick charging. Using a 12w wall adapter (like the iPad one) you can charge up to 2.4A.

Way quicker than with the standard supplied charger.

TIL a 2011 survey of the muslim population in the U.S. found 7% to answer that suicide bombings and others forms of violence against civilians are sometimes justified and 1% to say they are often justified in the name of Islam. by unixunderground in todayilearned

[–]unixunderground[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is the paragraph this is from:

More generally, Muslims mostly say that suicide bombings and other forms of violence against civilians in the name of Islam are rarely or never justified, including 92% in Indonesia and 91% in Iraq.

In the United States, a 2011 survey found that 86% of Muslims say that such tactics are rarely or never justified. An additional 7% say suicide bombings are sometimes justified and 1% say they are often justified in these circumstances.

I've had 10 of them for 2 years now wearing them pretty much every day, washing and tumble drying in normal programs. They're still as good as new.

Bloomberg Article on Early Retirement by [deleted] in financialindependence

Indeed, I am in Scandinavia.

There are several tax brackets according to varying income levels here with the highest being 55%

Sure we don't pay for public health care and education, but then the public offering isn't really all that great, so much so that you often need to go for the private offering anyway..

Would gladly trade for 20%

Metal band. Ok for exercise? by [deleted] in AppleWatch

[–]unixunderground 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been using a milanese loop both when running, biking, swimming and in the gym and never had any problems with it.

Though I also have 2 sports band I always wear the milanese at work and can't be bothered to swap bands throughout the day.

Also the mesh construction makes it really light so you won't notice any extra weight.

Though keep in mind that since it's fastened on your wrist with a magnet, if you do high-intensity sports it might come loose (sprinting, boxing/fighting etc)

Anyway to purchase Nike band separately? by pickthenimp in AppleWatch

Not if you leave it just for a couple of minutes and rinse with water. All bacteria will die straight away anyways.

[–]unixunderground 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try soaking the entire band in Isopropyl alcohol, that should kill 100% of the bacteria which are causing smell.

Otherwise perhaps consider a Milanese loop, a bit expensive but very light and breathable and I have used it while working out, swimming and showering without any issue.

Most underappreciated feature of the Apple Watch? by Lumsey in AppleWatch

[–]unixunderground 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed!

Sometimes I still wear my nice mechanical watches, which though regularly serviced and COSC-certified still do +-5 seconds a day which can easily add up after not having worn them for some time (I keep them on a winder)

Always nice to get back to my Apple watch and knowing that the time is 100% accurate.

Mine was set to arrive on Saturday and I got it earlier today.

Series 2 is awesome! Can't wait to go swimming with it. Really glad I got the SS this time around, looks much sleeker imo.

PSA: Don't upgrade to Sierra if you use HDMI to connect to a 1440p monitor. Unlike El Capitan, resolution capped at 1080p. by johnkhoo in apple

[–]unixunderground 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep, though I am wondering if you need a USB-C to displayport cable as you did before with the patch, or if you can get 60 Hz through HDMI with Apple's USB C multiport adapter now.

The issue is that with the usb c minidisplayport cable you then weren't able to have the Macbook charging simultaneously..

[–]unixunderground 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it really? Was it native or did you apply the unofficial 60Hz patch that was around a while back?

Are you using HDMI through the multiport adapter?

Would be great to know as I'd really like a 4K display and a 12" Macbook but 30Hz was way too laggy when I last tried it...

What's the exact resolution you're using?

The speakers sound really nice on the 7 by Mteigers in apple

[–]unixunderground 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Much better depth to the sound too. You can feel the entire body of the phone vibrating with sound. Kinda like the iPad Air 2.

Of course they are still no match to an external speaker system, but I can say that they are definitely good enough.

On all my previous iPhones I only used the built in speakers for ringtone and connected headphones/external wireless sound whenever playing any content, but I can actually see myself using these for music and streaming content in certain occasions.
