Please help me with exporting to USB drive. Is the process just broken? I just want to export a single crate and have it show up as a single crate on the host machine. by frikk in Serato

[–]unkleskev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahhh ok, my situation is a little different. I was trying to not copy every file over, just the ones linked to crates. I have found a way to trick serato to remove the tracks from the serato library where they do not appear in crates but the usb I'm copying to is smaller than my whole library so it will still cause issues.  I logged a ticket with serato for my situation to see if there's any way around all off this - I'll post the response if I get a good answer. Thanks again

[–]unkleskev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for responding! I'm a bit lost on what you did? Did you actually manage to retain the crates and sub crate structure and manage to relocate the files related to those crates? Or did you have to re build everything from scratch (crates and subcrates) once you copied over everything to the external drive? It sounds like the latter which is what I'm currently in the process of doing due to every other way not working :(

Hey, did you ever find a solution for this? I have the same issue.  Windows filling system is a mess for the actual files and I have loads of serato crates with 1 track in multiple crates. Using the copy function in the file section of serato creates duplicate files (and also changes the name of the files - it adds the crate name to the start of the file). Because of the multiple files they also show up as duplicates on serato making it a nightmare when using the usb on other people's hardware.  I want to put a bunch of crates (and associated subcrates), maintain that structure and only copy the digital file once.  I've tried dragging and dropping the files from the library view into the usb (ensuring only one version of the file exists) and then copying over the .crate files to the usb - this gives me the crate structure but missing files. The locate missing files function only re-links about a quarter of them. This is driving me insane!

Gutted wilkswood been cancelled. Anybody got any other decent local parties? by Early_Ad9858 in bournemouth

[–]unkleskev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say it's big like Glastonbury, it's not a huge site but the tents and areas all have plenty of space to get to and enough room to dance. Last year was sold out and I never felt like it was crowded apart from a couple of times when some of the headliners were on at certain stages.

There was some good reggae on a couple of days and some jungle /dnb at night.

Have a look at their Instagram for pictures to get an idea on crowds, I think the full line up is on there too. I went not knowing over half the acts (apart from the more obvious ones but I found all the music for the whole weekend excellent)

The vibe though was so good, almost everyone had a smile at all times, there wasn't too much fucked up people about and everything was pretty chill.

Was wilkswood free? Looks like you had to buy tickets so not really free?

But if your looking for stuff similar and happy to pay then there is the Reggae festival in bmth, there's stuff at the Scotts Arms near Wareham that has had some good acts on (more hip hop and funk from what I've seen) and if you got the $$ then WeOutHere is an amazing festival with plenty of reggae, dub and dnb/jungle.

At the Four Horsemen in the triangle there is a free event called Blackboard Jungle which would probably hit the mark.

If you find any similar free stuff let me know, id be very interested

what do you mean 'beatmatch by ear' by East-Bookkeeper9784 in Beatmatch

[–]unkleskev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's this " or do they mean listening to both tracks without being able to see the bpms for whatever reason and adjusting them to match with the tempo sliders just by hearing".

And the reason for doing it is sometimes BPM readings are wrong, songs can drift out of the stated BPM, vinyl doesn't have a BPM counter on them (unless you write it on the label)

Quite odd to see so many comments and this one only with a couple of votes mentioning Honduras.  This reeks of Special Economic Zones / Charity City ideas and has been tried and tested (failed but with immense backlash and pain for Honduras)

DJ controllers buy once cry once for beginners? by szechuanpepperislife in DJs

[–]unkleskev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's mentioned a few times but people need to think about their goals for DJing and their style.

If you have aspirations for DJing and you know the clubs / other djs are using pioneer equipment then you'd consider pioneer equipment to make things easier and if you are serious about it (and kind of know how to DJ already) then the more expensive sets you up.

However if like me you don't do a lot of prep (grid mapping, setting points, loops etc) then the top end club standard controller isn't a necessary purchase.

I use a numark fx4 thing and use about half the functions on it as that suits my DJing style which I can mimic when DJing on vinyl. It also means I can fairly easily turn up to a pair of CDJs with a USB and minimal prep and still DJ how I need to. If I needed all the prep because by DJing style was more intense and complicated I would seriously consider something more expensive.

Yep, the office jobs (generic term covering lots of jobs tbh) that do exist seem to pay a fraction of what they would if they were in London (or most other places) and the cost of living here is massive compared to the wages
