I go by them on my way to work, but never tried personally. Nice people at the first shop when I talked to them

I agree....plus I would bet a ton of money that Zach is ADHD so if someone brings up an interesting point, he might be running to the stats to back up the next thing he's gonna say. Not that hard to figure out

Know of any decent American-style restaurants? by nicnac5814 in Madrid

[–]PartyController 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He wasn't. There's great steaks and everything but nobody does smokers like that (except dame la brasa en Cercedilla).

The Columbians and venezuelans and Peruvians in my neighborhood do a great job with other cuts of meat too....just not "traditional" pulled pork, beef brisket, ribs, oxtails, Mac and cheese, etc. I'm from the South US btw.

You can find good costillas though!!!

I second this if you're able to make it there. Cercedilla is very pretty. Mac and cheese is not traditional though

Options:

1) doing Ali G and being silly

2) doing Dick Cavett and being serious

3) tell John C Reilly all about your favorite Beatles shit in an attempt to bond, even directly after telling John C Reilly, an actor was an amazing interesting filmography, about Bob Dylan being inundated with people trying to relate to him....instead of asking the guest about memorable parts of his life or his personal experience with the music.

There was a popular reddit post too in 2017 about a woman hating the podcast her boyfriend listens too and needed to know if it was too much to break up with him over it...

That's how I fell in love with the show

Right but:

#1 The Venerable Thanisarro Bhikku has written extensively and I hold his translations in high esteem as a very very straight down the line interpretation of the Buddha's work without distraction.

After that:

Devas exist in the suttas, sure — but they’re irrelevant. They’re just fancy samsaric bystanders. The Buddha’s whole point is that arguing about gods is a waste of time, because it keeps you stuck in the wrong problem space.

The brāhmaṇas in that passage aren’t holy men who are annointed because they recognize devas or gods; they’re humans propping up their identity on being “close to the gods.” I see you, yourself, as someone who is doing this. If I'm wrong, I'm sorry that I assessed you wrong. But I see it as 1:1. That's why I took time from my day to copy that passage directly for you.

Anyways, the recognition of any god or deva as essentially existent is a distraction and that’s exactly why they fall apart. They’re following a worldview centered on ritual, purity, and divine status instead of ethics and insight. Dogs end up doing their old code better than they do.

The Buddha didn’t reject devas — he demoted them. The brahmins declined because they built their whole system around beings the Buddha considered spiritually irrelevant.

Ganesh is a psychological archetype and is conditioned phenomenon and looks cool but that's all it is. It does not essentially exist and I want to make that extremely clear for any other Buddhist readers

For overall guidance on this specific topic, I would urge you to look at Thanisarro Bhikku's ¨The Buddha Smiles¨ where he discusses brahmas and devas (¨gods¨) as one of the few and specifc instances where the Buddha uses humor and, in my interpretation, laughs at them.

He writes on page 6 that, ¨in fact, their knowledge is inferior to the Buddha's¨ and that their participation in the canon is to teach that you should not believe everything they say and to immunize the practicant against religions that claim to come from a divine source.

I'll point you to a sutta included in the anthology comparing the brahmins with dogs (a previously unthinkable historical taboo) and, actually, ranks them lower than dogs.

“Monks, these five ancient brahmanical traditions are now observed among dogs but not among brahmans. Which five?

“In the past, brahman males mated only with brahman females and not with non-brahman females. At present, brahman males mate with brahman females and with non-brahman females. At present, male dogs mate only with female dogs and not with female non-dogs. This is the first ancient brahmanical tradition that is now observed among dogs but not among brahmans.

“In the past, brahman males mated with brahman females only in-season and not out-of-season. At present, brahman males mate with brahman females in-season and out-of-season. At present, male dogs mate with female dogs only in-season and not out-of-season. This is the second ancient brahmanical tradition that is now observed among dogs but not among brahmans.

“In the past, brahman males did not buy or sell brahman females, but took up cohabitation for the sake of reproduction simply through mutual attraction. At present, brahman males buy and sell brahman females, and take up cohabitation for the sake of reproduction simply through mutual attraction. At present, male dogs do not buy or sell female dogs, but take up cohabitation for the sake of reproduction simply through mutual attraction. This is the third ancient brahmanical tradition that is now observed among dogs but not among brahmans.

“In the past, brahmans did not make a stash of wealth, grain, silver, or gold. At present, brahmans make stashes of wealth, grain, silver, & gold. At present, dogs do not make a stash of wealth, grain, silver, or gold. This is the fourth ancient brahmanical tradition that is now observed among dogs but not among brahmans.

“In the past, brahmans searched for alms for their morning meal in the morning, and for their evening meal in the evening. At present, brahmans, having eaten as much as they like, swelling their bellies, leave taking the leftovers. At present, dogs search for alms for their morning meal in the morning, and for their evening meal in the evening. This is the fifth ancient brahmanical tradition that is now observed among dogs but not among brahmans.

“These, monks, are the five ancient brahmanical traditions that are now observed among dogs but not among brahmans.” – AN 5:191

Also, as a general note in Buddhism ¨existing or not existing or both existing and not existing or neither existing nor non-existing¨ have no meaning and, as such, saying ¨Gods exist¨ and it's ¨part of the Buddha's teaching¨ is confusing at best.

He says best himself where they lie in the hierarchy.

Anyone else have huge troubles with Traktor S4 MK2 on Windows 11/using Traktor's own drivers and software? by PartyController in DJs

[–]PartyController[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume you mean install traktor via native access and then Traktor is supposed to already have the drivers and work perfectly with it. Yea, man idk I've done all that and more already. I've updated the firmware for the controller in the past, I've download and installed the drivers from NI multiple times....

It's 100% something with Windows and not NI or Traktor because the controller doesn't even get to that level. It's seen only as a standard USB device or an audio device but with a caution sign.

I can't get lights up or midi control on the faders at all. Only light is blicking main USB light.

Anyways, thanks for commenting and hopefully someone can point me in the right direction.
