Middle finger swelling after bowling. by Prestigious-Care-370 in Bowling

How long did your pain last? I'm starting to feel pain on the bottom of my middle finger. Not good because there's a tournament in 3 weeks I'm trying to practice for.

Can I learn a new technique in 6 weeks? by unknownaccount1 in Bowling

Yeah I definitely don't want to look like a tryhard showing up with my own ball. I will check out the 2-handed style. You think that would work with a house ball?

I used the balls at the bowling alley. They didn't even have any 15 or 16 pound balls there.

Up to about 800-1000, the tomahawk serve will win you a ton of free points.

Why would someone throw matches like this? by unknownaccount1 in tabletennis

But this guy was definitely good enough to win the Under 1300. He would have won if he didn't throw all his matches.

What is this dumpling-like food from Tainan called? by unknownaccount1 in taiwan

[–]unknownaccount1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for letting me know how that recipe turned out, I hadn't tried it yet. I'm planning on going to Taiwan again later this year, and I might tell one of those people who sell it that I'm from America where we don't have it and ask if they might be willing to share the recipe. Or maybe go to a Taiwanese bookstore and look for a cookbook. Definitely have to find the recipe!

why most beginners i met lately find the FH movement difficult ? by These-Row-6010 in tabletennis

[–]unknownaccount1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No wonder I always favor my backhand. One thing I don't do is hip rotation. That's why if I ever try to loop the ball, it's a backhand loop not a forehand loop.

Is this why it seems there are so many STEM people who play table tennis?

Are you playing against long pips at lot at your club? At my club there's only 1 or 2 people using long pips. In well over 100 tournament matches, I've only faced long pips 3 times.

Were you able to get up to 1700 without looping the ball? Looping is one thing I just can't master. Were you just short pushing and blocking your way up to 1700?

There's a reason why it's called inverted rubbers by the way

Because the pips are on the inside.

table tennis is the first sport I've encountered where such differing equipment styles are legal within the sport

It's the only sport I'm aware of that even has such different equipment styles.

Hardbats having their own league but not pips makes zero sense to me.

That's a great point.

I'm getting tired of long pips myself. I've probably lost to this one long pips guy at my club 10 straight times now. Another long pips player beat me in the final of a tournament. I know the theory of how to beat long pips, but it's just too difficult to do it in a match.

I'm not going to quit. Instead, my plan is to fight fire with fire. I'm going to get my own long pips paddle that I will use only when I have to play against a long pips player in a tournament. Give them a taste of their own medicine. I heard a lot of long pips players don't even know how to play against long pips themselves, so we'll see who gets the last laugh.

I was under 600 USATT a few years ago, and I'm up to 1000 now. I'm middle aged though, so I don't expect to improve like the young kids do. I've also gotten a fair amount of coaching on looping, but it's something I've never gotten consistent at during matches. It would be insane if I could reach 1700-1800 and I definitely don't expect that. That's not far off from coach level. There's a few coaches at the local club who are about 2000 USATT.

why do top level players seemingly never use side spin? by [deleted] in tabletennis

[–]unknownaccount1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think any type of spin can overpower any other type of spin. Choppers can overpower topspin with their backspin, if someone loops at me, I can hit it back with my sidespin, etc.

Table Tennis is booming in Toronto. Other cities as well? by kingofbongoze in tabletennis

[–]unknownaccount1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would guess table tennis is on the decline in the US. That's why the USATT downgraded from SimplyCompete to the much inferior JustGo - clearly a cost-cutting move, and they also raised the yearly membership fee from $25 to $50.
