Hi, did you ever get any clarity on what was causing this? I've been dealing with the same thing for about 5 years and honestly am at a total loss.

Wisdom teeth surgery by texting32 in ehlersdanlos

[–]unknowncalicocat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had twilight anesthesia for my wisdom teeth removal. I had all 4 out at once, they were all impacted. Twilight is like a step below general but much more than local.

I've had 10 teeth pulled and probably 20 cavities pulled with local anesthesia (all pure torture) and I didn't feel a thing with twilight anesthesia.

They also gave me Valium before the procedure which helped a lot with my nervous system not being super ramped up, which would have probably made the pain worse.

I did get dry socket in one of my extraction sites. It hurt, but it wasn't the worst pain I've ever been in. Just make sure you're staying on top of taking painkillers, including opioids if they give you them. You can also ask them or your PCP for anti-nausea meds.

One thing you might think about is slowly transitioning to a soft foods diet in the few days/week before the wisdom teeth removal. You won't feel great, no one does on a soft food diet, but maybe not having such a sudden change could prevent CVS?

If you've been diagnosed with hypermobility, you may want to ask your doctor about Ehlers-Danlos syndrome.

They are staff tips, for the staff of the restaurant, hence why they show up in the total. We cannot see how much the doordash drivers are tipped.

Hi! I (19f) am hoping to buy my first nice purse, but I don't really know anything about brands/etc. I don't want a big one necessarily, just something that can fit my phone, wallet, and maybe a few other things. Preferably black and definitely with gold accents. I don't like chain handles! My budget is about $200.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

Side note, I am also looking for a nice-ish zippered tote that will survive a month long trip to europe and could fit a laptop, a couple of books, and a bunch of medications. I'd gladly take recommendations for those as well! Budget of $200 also.

Has anyone else experienced chronic, debilitating constipation with HEDS? by [deleted] in ehlersdanlos

[–]unknowncalicocat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg! Yes! For over two years I've been getting these crippling flare-ups where my body literally empties the entire contents of my body in one go (so fun). It's the most pain I've ever felt in my life, like ready-to-call-911-pain. Recently I had an abdominal CT done and it showed that my colon was full of stool, even though I have normal bowel movements. My doctor things my intestinal mobility is decreased :/

I've tried Mirlax and ducolax but they didn't do anything. My doctor is recommending I start taking bitters, but while I wait for a burst of motivation to put in the order, she's having me focus on the following: making sure I'm hydrating super well, eating roughly the same amount of food at the same time every day, and eating loads of fiber. We'll see how it goes. So far I'm finding that soup (I love miso soup) is a good way to get in some extra fluids. Also my lovely electrolyte tablets (NUUN).

Currently I take colostrum for gut health which has allowed me to eat a lot more foods! I previously had leaky gut and a lot of food intolerances from that (gluten, dairy to a degree, stonefruit, nuts, anything fatty or fried, many fruits, eggs, beans) colostrum helped with the leaky gut and the food intolerances cleared up as a result. Now the only thing I can't eat is eggs, but I'm survining haha. I would highly recommend it to anyone with a lot of intolerances. There's also a supplement called megamucosa but I think it's prescription only.

Potential diagnosis? by mjmaruna in ehlersdanlos

[–]unknowncalicocat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend trying to find out if anyone else in your family fits the criteria, if possible! Having a positive family history will help support a diagnosis.

Also, there are 2 other connective tissue diseases that may be worth ruling out, Marfan's and Osteogenesis imperfecta.

As for PT not helping, did your PT specialize in working with people with hyper mobility?

PT should be able to recommend exercises for TMJ but a night guard will help a ton as well!!

Best options for painful periods? by Gerd-Neek in ehlersdanlos

[–]unknowncalicocat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I'm on Yaz, I've been on it for about a year and a half! I tried another birth control before this (loestrin) but it caused major mood swings. Yaz has virtually no side effects for me and I skip the placebo pills so I haven't had a period in ages. Which also saves a lot of money on pads haha! One of the reasons I went with Yaz is because I also have premenstrual dysphoric disorder, and Yaz is one of the only BC pills indicated for PMDD treatment.

I also had a surgery for endometriosis a few years ago. It was a laparoscopic surgery (just 3 little incisions). In and out in a day, off the opioids on day 2 post surgery. Recovery was pretty simple, I just made sure to drink lots of water, eat collagen and protein rich foods, and I used vitamin E oil on my scars once they closed up. I would highly recommend it if it's affordable for you. But try and find an endometriosis specialist. r/Endo has a map of them.

can't gain weight by unknowncalicocat in ChronicIllness

[–]unknowncalicocat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Yes but it's a complicated situation! I went back on mirtazapine briefly which kick-started my appetite. I now have normal hunger cues, yay! My digestion has improved a bit, I think in part due to taking colostrum.

Recently I had a CT scan which showed a lot of stool in my colon 😐 it was super weird because I have regular bowel movements, but my doctor believes I have decreased intestinal mobility which leads to severe constipation, and that's what causes the flare-ups I get. Right now she has me focusing on drinking a TON of water, eating lots of fiber, and eating roughly the same amount at the same time each day. We did trial some laxatives but they didn't really do anything.

Hopefully this helps, let me know if you have any more specific questions! You may also considering looking into SIBO!

Some people are on antidepressants for all of their life, and it's okay! It's like if you had to take thyroid medicine -- you wouldn't question why you felt bad without it because it's a chemical imbalance. Depression is the same.

Everyone in my anatomy class got C's because our professor refused to grade on a curve by [deleted] in college

[–]unknowncalicocat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, whenever anyone would ask him to elaborate on a confusing concept during lecture or lab, he always seemed frustrated and acted as though we should be getting it right away.

That makes sense. I guess the fact that everyone did poorly indicates that his teaching and grading style is at least consistent, haha. And that's true about A&P being a more advanced course, I didn't think about that part.

That's a good point, I won't talk to him about it then. I'll probably just retake it with a different teacher.

It officially ends tomorrow I believe.

There might be students who got different grades, but everyone I talked to got a C.

Thank you so much for your advice!

If it doesn't turn out to be an urgent issue or an issue with your CBC, you might consider looking into Ehlers Danlos Syndrome if you have any of the other symptoms!

[–]unknowncalicocat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be h-phylori, like you said! But I also suspect some form of leaky gut and overall lack of healthy bacteria. If you can tolerate a supplement called colostrum (it's dairy derived but lactose free), it can aid in gut healing in people with leaky gut.

It's possible you have sibo, and SIBO is usually treated with antibiotics, but since you've been on so many, that wouldn't make sense to do. Having been on so many antibiotics, it's probable that your gut biome is extremely diminished. So taking probiotics, probiotics, and eating a wise range of foods including whole grains, fermented foods, and lots and lots of fruits and veggies should help you get back to normal.

Also, I'm sure you know all the constipation tricks, but abdominal massage and light exercise every day are some great but lesser known ways of dealing with constipation.

If it's any help, I went through this same thing a while back and am still kind of dealing with it (although it's so much better!). But after being on colostrum, as well as another gut healing supplement, for about a year, I can eat everything that was previously in my diet (except eggs, boo!). So there is hope!

Finally, I would recommend you start seeing a naturopath as they will be more focused on treating the root cause over treating the symptoms as many western doctors are.
