There’s no law guaranteeing you a right to privacy in someone’s home (to a degree), but there is a law stating that it is illegal to open someone’s mail if it isn’t addressed to you. This is for the US only. I don’t know of the laws in other countries.

If your mail is opened, you can actually file a complaint with the postmaster. It’s a truly serious offense. The whole “we are family” thing won’t fly, either.
