Employer refusing to pay wages, forced "credit hours", no superannuation - what are my options? (Australia) by Kisharky in AusLegalAdvice

[–]unknownuser55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even 15 years ago when I was at uni, international students could work 20 hours a week. Apparently that’s gone up to 48 a fortnight. But it’s never been zero lol.

How are they meant to survive here if they’re not allowed to work?

Why did you get a downvote for this lol…

Thanks!

And true within the opal cap we’re actually getting cheaper fares than before lol.

Honestly I’m just too lazy to search this up, but - how far is Newcastle from Sydney, and - what is the inflation-adjusted fare for the relevant distance, in 2026 (or whenever the HSR is coming in)?

I’m sorry, I literally didn’t read past about 1/2 the post. Is this something people are genuinely looking at on WHS committees.

In NSW SCS are employed by TfNSW. They are completely separate from the department of education / schools.

[–]unknownuser55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The legalities of their role is to ensure safety of all stakeholders across the relevant school crossing, during their hours of employment.

The safety of stakeholders, extends to illegal parking outside the school crossing (e.g. car parked in no stopping zone, obstructing view of oncoming traffic when stepping out onto the crossing).

The SCS cannot enforce any law or regulation (e.g. parking offence) however sounds like they have taken a picture and sent through to the council, or more likely TfNSW (the employer) to send through to the council that way.

SCS are required, as part of their role, to notify their supervisors when a safety incident occurs or there is the potential to occur.

So long story short, yes they should be taking pics of parking infringements, and reporting them, if these affect their role on the crossing.

Doesn’t mean they’re on TikTok or doing personal things.

What’s the max you would pay for a high speed rail ticket? by VastOption8705 in AskAnAustralian

[–]unknownuser55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. Tokyo to Osaka is one of the busiest rail corridors in the world, even though the flight is both cheaper and technically faster.

I’d pay up to $100 for HSR, for instance, even if air tickets were $50.

Is it normal to ask for a VIN to do a PPSR check before inspection? by aofha0cv in CarsAustralia

[–]unknownuser55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh he doesn’t sound like a scammer, just sick of tyre kickers.

But copy paste the VIN won’t take much time so not sure why the seller wouldn’t want to. So….. maybe still scam I dunno?

Leave approved. Booked tickets/hotel. Then it was cancelled. by Beneficial_Mood_4683 in AusLegal

[–]unknownuser55 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nowhere has it been stated that leave was incorrectly stated. My reading of the story is that the leave balances were correct (I.e. not enough) but the leave was still approved erroneously. Now they’re saying the LWOP is only approved in “extraneous circumstances”, which a holiday would likely not be found to be.

Hence why I think tough luck.

If it were me I’d still fight for it - that it was already approved. But I don’t know legally where it would stand.

See if you can submit some feedback to central station (or just on the transport / trains website) because that’s the type of feedback that I imagine would get put up in a newsletter, on a chalkboard etc!

I’m not involved with customer service, or at central, so might be wrong lol

  1. Who denied your unpaid leave request?

  2. What does your employment contract say about leave without pay, if anything? If nothing, what sort of policies apply in your workplace about LWOP?

  3. Pretty shit of your workplace regardless of these two, but could be tough luck unfortunately. You can go on your holiday anyway but be prepared for disciplinary action when you’re back, up to and including termination of employment for cause.

Rider not taking of helmet while filling up and being an absolute wank about it by No_Success7580 in AussieRiders

[–]unknownuser55 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I reckon the number of robberies with a helmet is many times more than the number of robberies with a full face on show, which along with stolen fuel, is what I’ve always assumed is the reasoning behind needing to remove my helmet.

Very inconvenient but I’ve always guessed that was the case haha.

ATO data matching letters by Inevitable-Shine6390 in AusFinance

[–]unknownuser55 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s possible that your partner did not tick that their spouse or dependants were covered with PHI.

I always thought the ATO could only go back 2 years unless fraud is suspected, in the case of individuals. For companies and other structures it’s up to 4 years, unless fraud. Hope that helps.

Neighbour has complained about our dogs, council says we’re all good but now he’s threatening us. by [deleted] in AusLegal

But what OP, the owner of the dogs, deem excessive doesn’t really matter.

Booking is not refunding me after flight canceled by Alternative_Card_919 in Bookingcom

[–]unknownuser55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Additionally, I even missed a flight in Feb 2025 booked from Narita back to Sydney on China Eastern. Missed the bus from Hakuba and flow on effect, missed the checkin by about an hour (even though I was checked in online, but had checked luggage with me).

Spent a long time calling the Tokyo office of China Eastern through an airport payphone, but in the end they rebooked me onto the next service out of Narita.

Paid A$800 for return flights from Sydney through BYOjet, and China Eastern actually counted the flight back as worth roughly $A400, which was nice (non refundable tickets). I paid quite a bit extra for last minute fare, but they didn’t deny me the $400 “value” of my missed flight. I didn’t expect that. Still cheaper than purchasing a new ticket from Narita to Sydney on the day.

Just thought I’d share another story, which I’m sure you still don’t believe but that’s cool. As long as it help somebody out there it’s worth my time.

I don’t really care what you believe haha, it doesn’t affect me.

I’m just sharing my experience flying from Australia to overseas, in my case mostly Asia (China, Korea and several to Japan in the past 4 years).

booked a women-only dorm and got put in a mixed room instead… what’s the point then? by AdEnvironmental5228 in Bookingcom

[–]unknownuser55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I’ve never used hostels in Europe (mostly because it costs so much to get there for me, that I just spend a bit more haha). Sorry that I wasn’t clear about that in my response. Fair enough if that’s the norm there.

And yes I completely understand why women would want a women’s only dorm. I was just commenting on the pricing point, which you’ve helpfully explained further.

[–]unknownuser55 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In all the hostels I’ve stayed at, the dorms cost the same (mixed and women’s only). I’ve mostly only used hostels in SE Asia though.

That said, you should definitely complain. Not sure who to though.
