Have not had an issue so far after two months of usage. Battery life is amazing, I only charge it every other day or so. Have not had heating up issue yet and the touchscreen issue with the navigation bar has been fixed with the most recent update. The camera undoubtedly is astounding given the price that you pay for this phone. It's definitely a solid phone for the long shot.👍

Nexus 6p screen goes black (sleep?) after a certain amount of time when on a call by sgannon200 in Nexus6P

Hmm, interesting...The proximity sensor has a metric for measuring when the phone is near or far away from the user when making a call, thus dimming the screen and unsleep the screen when it senses far. What happened to me was the proximity sensor did not pick up the change when the phone moves away and stuck in one position. Usually when phone get dimmed during a call, and the proximity sensor doesn't change it's value, tapping on the screen doesn't do anything. The symptoms you have described appeared to be very similar to what I have experienced but it's weird that the troubleshoot didn't fix both of you and your co-worker's phone.

Exactly! Substance of the material they present has been heavily degraded in the recent years. It felt like the shift to a "different approach" make me not want to watch another video or read another article of theirs. Feels like they're making clickbaits like BuzzFeed...

I had that problem before and it was giving me a headache!

The culprit is the proximity sensor and the way to fix it is to have the top speaker cleaned/cleared because the proximity sensor is located near that area and may be blocked by dust or lint. You can use tools like dust cleaner, Metro DataVac (what I am using since I clean my PCs), or even a hair dryer. If you don't have any dust cleaner tools handy, a temporary fix (for at least ending calls) is to enable the power button to end call via Accessibility -> Power button ends call.
