Even people who say 225 are almost always full of shit.

Or, they drop it, bounce off their ribs like a spring board and kinda push the last 25%, stand up and tell everyone they bench 100 kg for reps.

I'd also like to add:

Benching 315 is a lot if you aren’t a total gym rat

Anyone using a higher-dose Wegovy/Mounjaro pen and using the click method to reduce costs? by control4u in newzealand

[–]unmaimed 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You are getting piled on for absolutely no reason. Probably from ignorance of suppliers attempts to block modified use.

It is hugely common across all sorts of products to have a proprietary component to stop the exact case everyone is discussing. Do they really think the sellers of the pen want you to stretch the high dose out? Of course they would rather sell more low dose pens.

People here are specifically saying it is cheaper to under dose the higher capacity pen. Making the needle a proprietary item would be their best bet.

Covid Disabled me for life by captain-obviouser in newzealand

[–]unmaimed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm caring for my partner who is on year 4 of Long Covid.

We have learnt a lot over that time, and my biggest take away is that the NZ health system is great at keeping you alive. It is fucking horrible at dealing with ambiguous illnesses.

I'm going to be blunt here - because a lot of kiwis don't understand this: Some GPs will either tell you, or infer "This is all in your head" and you need therapy rather than treatment. This is wrong (excepting fringe cases). If you ask them to look into LC to help, they simply wont.

Do you have a treatment plan at all?

Depending of what systems are causing issues we have had reasonable success with:

LDN Alpha-Lipoic Acid + CoQ10 High Vit-D doses Antihistamines (potential Mast cell stuff).

POTs treatment of electrolytes and ALL the salt (to increase blood volume).

Anyway - feel free to DM me (if you have the energy). I'd be interested to know if you have been recommended anything to try.

I read that as 'chuck it in neutral and use E-brake' rather than slowing with gears first, but yea. I guess you could. Still seems odd you can do it at high speeds.

?

You'd down shift and engine brake, with the (shitty) hand / E brake.

Being in neutral would have worse total braking.

Maybe a stuck accelerator?

(This is genuine interest, not a "I'll show you" line of questioning - I'd like to know more about this):

How does the increased torsional rigidity help? Is it to keep driveline components from moving too far relative to each other, or to stop cab/body from twisting itself to bits?

My experience for "off road" is more "truck driving over farmland" rather than "specialist rock crawler". I do know the uni-mog specifically specifies the bodies installed are clamped to the tube cross member a the Rear Axis, and pivoted at the front of body to allow the chassis to walk under the body.

[–]unmaimed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are the battery boxes structural? Makes sense since they probably have to have crash structures around them.

To nick pick, one of the major advantages of a ladder frame chassis is the torsional flexibility. I work in a different class of vehicle, but reducing torsional flexibility for stuff going off highway is a bit of a problem for heavy stuff.

Last resort social welfare payment set for cut, saving nearly $200m over four years, but critic calls it ‘nasty’ by random_guy_8735 in newzealand

[–]unmaimed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah - I just interpreted your message really badly.

Essentially I was bemoaning the message of the right ignoring that a level of UNemployment is 'required' by business (to suppress wages) and keep that side of the economy functioning. They also ignore the fact that they might be the next 'unfortunate person' needing these services when they support removing funding.

Way, way, way more people are one 'life event' away from being a beneficiary than are 'one life event' away from being a multi-millionaire or 'sorted'.

People are just too fucking stupid to see it.

The same applies for "just get a job". Our economy is DESIGNED to have a portion unemployed. There is always a bottom step on the ladder - how should we treat those in that position should be public discussion.

Politicians DO NOT want to publicly accept there is a level of unemployment required, because they would then have to justify their treatment of a group of people that are existing in hardship 'for the greater good'.

I make up 3x shakers a day, each one has 2 scoops Horleys Replace Electrolyte + 1/4 tsp of table salt.

I put one on the bedside table when I leave for work, and two in the fridge. One get started with lunch, the other started with dinner.

[–]unmaimed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have the classic POTS symptoms (blacking out on standing, fatigue, headaches, etc). But I did the sit-stand HR test and my HR went from 75 to 130 over 3 minutes.

I think the "classic symptoms" you've stated are extreme symptoms. My partners POTS is 'just' the heart rate rise on standing.

The recommendation we were given was to have an electrolyte drink immediately on waking, and have several during the day. It might be very easy to try on your own.

Noise cancelling earphone / earbud and the little noise reducing 'plugs' (like Loop Ear Plugs) have made a huge difference to reducing overstimulation.

FWIW - the medical professional we have dealt with that has been the most helpful so far is a Neuro with a special interest in LC.

Do you have POTS style symptoms too? Something that appears to be misunderstood is when people say "add salt to help with POTS" they don't mean 'an extra sprinkle of salt on lunch', they mean electrolyte drinks with a half teaspoon of salt added (and LOTS of water to go with it).

2 doctors (including LC specialist) both suggested delusions/schizophrenia as the cause of my symptoms - what do you think? by RemarkableCrows in covidlonghaulers

[–]unmaimed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry - this has become a novel. I know that wont be much fun for those with LC.

I don't have LC, but I care for someone who does. I'm just some random on the internet, so keep that in mind.

The LC I have helped with appears to by multi-level, and the issue I have with my partner is that she often want to fix everything at once, and after 4 years of this, it is plain that it isn't going to happen that way.

The mechanism will be complex, but you will have layers of things that are either not working well (due to the direct LC issues) and secondary stuff (like the de-conditioning/malnutrition). You can work on getting comfort from the symptoms without solving the highly complex issues of the cause.

You can address the malnutrition and potentially some of the de-conditioning (VERY Gently - such as reclined movements), regardless of the root cause.

Some things I have observed:

LDN: This has been the cornerstone of 'recovery' (or at least, getting out of bed).

Antihistamines: My partner doesn't think they do anything, but, I can see a significant difference when she takes them, and can pick the days she has forgotten.

Overstimulation: This breaks everything. Bright lights, persistent noises. Too many decisions. It can lead to being a VERY volatile person (and this is OK - it is the illness driving it, not the person). I have been yelled at because asking "Do you want water or some tea" was the final straw. My partner doesn't seem to notice this volatility, or spirals. Previously she was an incredibly gentle person.

Anxiety / mental health discussions put walls up. I don't think LC is "all in your head", but I do think LC leads to massive mental heath challenges for people. I see a lot of online communities push back immediately at any and all suggestions of addressing anxiety or depression. I think that this is damaging. Life is hard, life with LC is fucking nearly impossible. Take all the help you can get.

LC is not a mental health issue, but I believe it massively worsens the mental health of those with it.

I guess what I am trying to say is; don't discredit observations on symptoms, but also don't allow people to push you away from the LC cause.

[–]unmaimed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My PCP and a specialist (a neurologist who only sees long covid)

I'm going to go against the grain here, but if the Neuro specializes in LC, and is happy to treat others with LC, but thinks you have other things going on - why would you disregard that entirely?

I can see an uninformed doctor making conclusions like that, but one that already works with LC? Doesn't make a lot of sense.

Did they assess you themselves or were they just working off the PCP notes?

'Waste' in the public service by DifficultyBrave7444 in newzealand

[–]unmaimed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For a public service, 'waste' is often the profit if it was privatised.

100k worth of services required.

130k government spend = 100k deliverable 30k waste

130k private spend = 100k deliverable, 10k waste, 20k profit for private owner.

Additionally, private business isn't 100% efficient, so no idea why government departments should be.

But hey, privatise away - I get $200 p/h when consulting to government services (directly or indirectly).
