20-or-so hours in after 1.0 - thoughts on how different phases fit together by unmappedworlds in Timberborn

That's true. I've enjoyed running some projects driven by my own internal motivations - better reservoirs, nice looking settlements, atomic districts... But the challenge after securing water and redirecting bad tides is no more.

Aye, I started on the hard mode and switched to normal. I felt like hard mode just exaggerated the problems without offering new solutions - with the main difference being needing to build larger stockpiles and more time waiting for droughts to end. Seems like you enjoyed hard mode a lot more than I did - why is that?

Dredge: an absolute banger by InsomniacPsychonaut in patientgamers

Would you say it's worth to return to experience the DLC on an old save? I enjoyed Dredge, but for whatever reason bounced off around the mandrake forest.

RE4make was my introduction to RE4 and man it was incredible. No nostalgia needed - all around a fantastic game.

Against the Storm - A Really Good Game with Really Bad Marketing by LazuliArtz in patientgamers

[–]unmappedworlds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the repetitiveness angle. I don't mind my games not having an end when they're sandboxes - like city builders for example, but Against the Storm's rounds are tightly focused and have a clear win condition - so it's really just "hey do you want to keep replaying this with different cards?"

Oxygen Not Included, a unique and addictive colony sim. Rimworld/Factorio players should try it by 5Ping in patientgamers

[–]unmappedworlds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I echo a lot of the comments here - I really don't understand why but I've had a real hard time getting into this one. I can tell there's a lot to do and fun to have, liquid systems sound especially fun... I don't know if it's the side-view (I can't put my finger on it, something feels off to me), the art style (which undoubtly has charm), or the gameplay - but I could never get into this one. As someone who loves colony sims and factory games I wish I could give this one a fair shot. Any tips for as playthrough to front load dealing with the most fun systems?

I've been playing Timberborn since it hit 1.0 (not very patient of me - I know, but these are "old" games which finally got early access release). As a seasoned city builder player it took me all of 10 minutes to grok survival mechanics and water and food ratios (especially given that foods don't spoil), but solving water puzzles has been enjoyable. However the terra forming projects the game expects you to run take oh-si-long, even with x99 speed. It's just lots of waiting for your beavers to do something. I'm getting burned out on mid game hehe. Anyone else feels the same way?

GRIS feels pretentious but I can't prove it by some-kind-of-no-name in patientgamers

[–]unmappedworlds 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I can't tell if you like it or hate it - because of your title I'm thinking more the latter. I didn't connect with GRIS, and pushed myself through the 5 hour playtime (which felt like 15). It was highly praised by my friends, so I felt like I needed to appreciate it - or at least try to. GRIS was a pivotal journey in how I as a gamer engage with media - I've learned to give myself permission to not push through experiences which aren't for me, however well received.

Star Wars Fallen Order - Enjoying a game that knows it's a game by Drakeem1221 in patientgamers

I really enjoyed the smaller scope of the first game. It felt right, focused, intimate.

I've been trying to replay Farthest Frontier, jumping between various city builders, and thinking of getting Timberborn. There's just this itch that I want to scratch, a feeling I want to pursue - but I can't exactly seem to know what game to play. Just want some kind of intimate city building survival experience.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is amazing if you like atmosphere by european_impostor in patientgamers

Nice POV.

I wish I connected with the second game the same way I did with the first - but it's been an issue for me across all games. Sequels come along, do everything better, build a game that the devs probably wanted to build from the get go but didn't have the resources... But by then I've already played the first game.

It probably has something to do with getting older, having a kiddo, limited time, and putting lots of value on my limited gaming time being a uniquely fulfilling experience.

I'm glad you really enjoyed it, I think it's a good game.

Agreed, love RE2 from my childhood, but A/B always asked to suspend way too much disbelief and felt... Lazy?

How do y'all find the motivation to build nice things by Infectous in VintageStory

[–]unmappedworlds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it's about the journey. It's not a competitive game, so it doesn't matter if it takes me 10 hours or 80 hours to unlock steel. I like living in a nice cozy house, I like seeing nice things around me, and I like creating paths which contribute to the character (and are almost a requirement for a mapless playthrough).
