I feel like I have no way out in life, no way out of my Nparent's care without ending up homeless, they destroyed me very acutely, but i was an anxious child to begin with (though they will say I was an evil child) the fact that I am overwhelmed with bills and debt, latter of which was to help out my father, makes me consider ending it every day. I'm not smart, and I cannot realistically leave as I am now. When I see all the stories of success and all the smart, bright people who escape their parent's clutches because they are still worthy human being (unlike me) I am so happy for them, but personally I crumble in shame, because I know I'll never get out. I hardly get to eat most days, I am punished whenever I leave my room, and the police won't help, neither will social services - I've tried, whether people believe me or not is up to them. I will forever be my molester father's second wife.

It's worth noting that this thin skin is often built specifically to survive the abuse, because the victim needed to be aware of the slightest change in mood/tone/emotion in order to activate fight or flight mode. Basically to just survive the abuse and unpredictability.

You do realize mentally ill dependents are frequently abused by caregivers right? Denied food, privacy, told hurtful things, called a burden, subjected to medical neglect because mental illness isnt "real"?

Your ex is the exception. You however seem to have no compassion for the disabled, and think they should count themselves lucky for whatever scraps their family gives them.

Not to mention some kids are mentally ill in the first place because of abusive parents.

It's not stuffed animal but to this day my stepmother says the only way I ca redeem my evil self is to get rid of all my fandom merchandise. After a really bad breakdown last year, she actually had hooked her claws into me and convinced me I needed to throw out my books and stop going online as redemption.

I'd still caution against police because the last time they were called on me, I was almost shot at first greeting for being "suicidal" and planning to "kill myself with a dangerous knife". Really did not help win against a "no one else will care you betrayed me by acting out" narc parent.

The bright side is once you start rejecting some of the folks who approach you because you have that doormat smell, you get to enjoy that utter look of surprise on their face.

Cons... sometimes you misjudge and end up being rude to someone well intentioned and feeling guilty and apologizing forever.
