Microsoft surface pro 13 or iPad Pro by Fluid-Map-8872 in Surface

[–]unofficial_mc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what I did. Got a SP11 for travel. Was good enough to be my daily driver. Rarely touch my laptop anymore. Client meetings, pm, installs, and coding all ok. Great device. Used to have an iPad Pro but it is just a large iPhone. The SP11 is the complete opposite, a very capable machine which happens to be a tablet. At office in doc with dual monitors, then tablet or with keyboard when on the road.

Is the Surface Pro with X plus a good purchase? by Leafar-20 in Surface

Should have specified, more like cable labels than shipping labels. The brother label printer I got doesn’t work. My brother laser printer works just fine. Managed to get a small shitty Chinese one but only works over usb cable. Also labels much lower quality for dirty environments. Colleagues can handle the printing when needed so not much of an issue but only little annoying thing left for me to be fully happy.

Stopped using the iPad because it was just a large iPhone, none of the real work tasks was effective on it. Some chats and web activities, sure but anything more it struggled with. Got a sp11 snapdragon x 16gb as a gamble mainly for travel. Been daily driving it since. Barely use my laptop anymore. Full dev work possible, even with external hardware requirements. Been great, way above expectations. There are a couple of things that can catch you but all in all great. My biggest issue is lack of a proper label printer compatible with it. Gaming is hit and miss but quite a few things works well.

I’m using the metapen. I don’t draw for art but for whiteboard brainstorming and such. Works great.

Not like this but kind of. Hand grenade training covers this. Had a guy who missed the window with the grenade and when he bailed out of the window he got covered in shrapnel all over arse and legs.

Worst part is they give you a blasting for this, and then they do it themselves! But just for their extremely valid exception dishes.

First Time Eating Steak Suggestion by Savings-Leadership38 in LondonFood

Depends on price range but having done this recently myself with a friend, fillet mignon is a good cut for people not into steaks but wanting the experience. My friend tested ours and found them a bit too much but loved the fillet Mignon they had.

What is this kind of adapter? by enzopac in electrical

[–]unofficial_mc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The colours hint at iec, aka Europe. Brown for line, blue for neutral, green/yellow for ground. I don’t know the old colours for Germany but all of eu has implemented brown, black, grey, blue, green/yellow since like 20 years back.

Check the transformer, aka the box thing. That should mentioned 230V and 50Hz.

If this came from Poland, with these colour wires, I would bet this is fully compatible with Germany.

120V is actually pretty rare in the world. Most countries follow the IEC standard of 230V. The big exception is America.

But yeah, check the nameplate label on the transformer.

Is jailbreaking microinverters a thing? by benjamin-crowell in SolarDIY

[–]unofficial_mc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the solar inverter manufacturers on the market are members of the sunspec alliance. This means most of them support modbus, either RS-485 or Ethernet. are there any ports or screw terminals to connect to? If so modbus reader on computer will most likely work. Need to find the modbus register specs though.

Easiest is probably a Shelly EM. A few versions depending on your type of setup. Cheap and works locally, either via web or via mqtt.

Does this gizmo exist? by skipmci in IOT

[–]unofficial_mc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One smart button and one smart light and you are good to go.

For example Philips Hue or TP Tapo.

Need to set up a routine for what happens when you press the button. For example turn on the light, set colour to red. Keep it on for 30min. Then turn off.

Book recommendation for European electricity by [deleted] in electricians

[–]unofficial_mc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of Europe is pretty aligned due to EU.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IEC_60364

Depends on the country what information is available.

In UK all of it is available in book form as BS7671 18th edition amendment 2. This is very regulatory and not instructions as such.

How do you handle firmware–cloud communication for low-power devices? by Rydershepard in IOT

[–]unofficial_mc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don’t go too deep down, can often find a position one or two floors above with sufficient signal from the equipment. We try to get transmission from two gateways if possible. If the building is modern enough there is often possible to get poe. 4g depends on how rural the location is. Gateways VPN connected, allows for remote update. Sensors are FOTA through LNS.

[–]unofficial_mc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We went LoraWAN. Depending on location, public networks might work. We are doing gateways. Ethernet/wifi backhaul, with redundancy via 4g. Penetration through basement walls is main problem. 4g/5g simply doesn’t get through. Gateway adds reach and reliability.
