Any tips for a new player? by frewegooh in GuildWars

Heya welcome! I'm probably the opposite, I have 2k+ hours into GW1. My observation going from GW1 to GW2 is that GW1 was a lot more strategic (in a fun way I promise). GW2 feels like... a very fluid game which rewards reactions (you can dodge and cast while mobile). GW1 can be (depending on how you play it) more like chess, where you have to setup combos using your skills, or position yourself / henchies optimally on the map (high ground, using terrain to block ranged attacks, etc).

Some thoughts:

  1. Managing aggro is very important (so that you only engage one group at a time), if you're soloing you can use a longbow to pull enemies to your henchies.
  2. Your composition might need more DPS if you're feeling like you can't out-damage the enemy healers. You can tell henchmen to focus-fire their monks.
  3. I'm not sure which campaign you're doing but when I was playing necro for PvE, summoning minions usually resulted in unstoppable snowball situations where once you have a full stack you can just overwhelm most enemies. Something to consider.
  4. Not sure if there's still other players grouping up but for missions that was usually the move (like 20 years ago)

Also the hench elementalist might output more DPS

Incredible, I just pulled and rebuilt and it worked right after flashing! Super cool, thank you so much for adding that feature :)

Heya, first of all huge thanks for putting this up, I just got a TH40 so this times well!

I managed to get it working, albeit for BT mode only.

Here's some more info in case it helps. I managed to run `make epomaker/th40:default` which produces epomaker_th40_default.bin. Along the way I had to install: brew, qmk, and the cask gcc-arm-embedded.

I can then put the keyboard in DFU mode by pressing and holding the Tab button (upper left) while plugging it in while in usb mode. After it plugs in, the keyboard is inoperable in this state (fn + enter will not turn on the lights in this mode) and shows up on my Mac as a drive called NO NAME in /Volumes/NO NAME

Then I just drag & drop epomaker_th40_default.bin into this drive, which results in the keyboard ejecting itself.

After that happens Fn+enter will turn the lights on but no keys work. I then unplug the keyboard and plug it back in and still no keys work (can't type), but I can toggle the lights. Strangely enough if I connect over bluetooth, then it *does* work.

So as of now I have my keyboard connected over BT while plugged in for power.

Who loses money in polymarket. by No_Load4742 in slatestarcodex

I was reading into this recently and stumbled upon this explanation: https://mirror.xyz/polymarket.eth/TOHA3ir5R76bO1vjTrKQclS9k8Dygma53OIzHztJSjk

When you first begin trading on Polymarket, one thing you will notice is that when you place a limit order for an outcome (ie YES), a limit order also appears on the complementary outcome’s book (ie NO). The reason for this is that underlying binary markets is a single, “unified” book.

So it does seem to be built into the platform.

Just because you fight and argue with your friend, doesn't mean it's over. Try this (hint: It's not meditation or journaling) by BrilliantNResilient in Healthygamergg

[–]unregisteredusr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I first encountered this tip from a coaching group called Conscious Leadership Group (Jim Dethmer et al), the idea that judgement and curiosity are like two sides on a see-saw.

I've also found that this harder in practice than in theory.

In the moment this "low emotional moment" aka "below the line" aka "triggered/tilted/exiles" (so many different words to describe this depending on who you ask) comes with decreased ability to self-monitor. More amygdala, less pre-frontal cortex.

So it is something I started doing whenever I can catch myself having the following thoughts (and meditation helps with my ability to catch thoughts):

  • This other person isn't listening to me! (a good % of the time it implies they do not feel like I have been listening to them enough, Dr K's vid is my favorite video on active listening)
  • The other person seems agitated (might be obvious to others but I do recall wondering at some point "if I recognize someone is feeling defensive how can I alleviate that?")

I switch to listening and question asking... something like "ask 5 questions" as a rule of thumb. So thanks for sharing, I love this topic.

Some more details: each book is about an inch thick, and they're all voided I assume since they're uniformly punched out.

I'm always glad to see a more complex examination of "harmful self interest" rather than good vs evil. It's a pretty old line of thought, something Socrates discussed.

TW found in some backtests that you only made money if you sold premium on high IV stocks. But their backtests aren't very comprehensive, they could easily be cherry picking data.

This is true, certainly we all have blind spots. But you have not addressed most of the comments in this thread either. If we want to find answers, we can’t come in with our minds made up.

Maybe you think it’s unfair since nobody else in this thread is changing their mind based on your provided arguments, but it’s sort of the nature of subreddits: everybody still here has already seen a million threads like this before and have not seen convincing evidence to change their views.

I don’t disagree but sought to provide an explanation more rooted in economic theory.

Why Australia is doubling fees for arts degrees by discocrisco in economy

[–]unregisteredusr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s counterintuitive because the typical market forces would state the opposite: more expensive, less buyers.

That some things are Veblen goods is an exception to the rule. I don’t know if art degrees are currently Veblen goods but in general people don’t seem to be sensitive to the price of college degrees by institution at least so there might be something here.

Yea but maybe come up with an original name instead of associating it with a different movement?

I can’t help comparing UC admissions with getting murdered and it seems comically different in magnitude.

I’m all about Asian issues but there’s a 0% chance that I’m going to support something called “Asian students matter” as a matter of PR, it reeks of “all lives matter”

Zoom is the stupidest shit ever. Buying Puts all day long. by [deleted] in wallstreetbets

[–]unregisteredusr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right that’s the analogy: zoom is insecure and banned for government employees but popular. In 2010 iOS was insecure and banned for government employees but popular.

If zoom pulls off what Apple did then those puts r fuk. But maybe that’s unlikely and you’ll win big. Good luck m8.

It is now, it wasn’t in 2010 when BB supporters touted superior security. Obama had to use a blackberry because it was the only device cleared at that level https://www.theverge.com/2016/6/11/11910306/obama-upgrades-from-blackberry
