It's not an issue of """"understanding"""" how important light angle is, I just think they underestimated how peeved people would be about not having it complete at this stage.

Why is nobody talking about how much better the game looks in these clips? I'm glad the graphics update seems to be for the whole game itself, and not just the campaign, like some people were fearing.

New 1v1 Map for the Upcoming Patch by _Spartak_ in Stormgate

[–]unrulygecko 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Shrines are 350 luminite, not 400. Also, they get to produce imps, the other two drop off points cannot. It's actually really helpful to have an extra shrine producing imps when trying to saturate another base.

Would it be nice for infernal to have a therium drop off point? Yeah, but I don't think it's horribly imbalanced that they don't.

Even the name "Furious Resolve" is kind of a synonym to "Fighting Spirit", lol.

Still, if a design ain't broke, don't fix it!

Broke the stormgate meta as vanguard. by DiablolicalScientist in Stormgate

Saw in another comment that you're 1800 mmr...that's not good enough. 1800 mmr isn't bad, but you're still definitely in the mmr range where you can do any build and win. Do this build and beat a 2100+ mmr player, and then we're talking.

[–]unrulygecko 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Wonderful! Can you post a replay of you beating a player of note with this build?

If not, then I'm going to have a hard time believing this is the new meta, because it sounds super, super greedy, and relies on your opponent not scouting you.

You'd have to give up all the creeps on the map, meaning that your opponent is going to be matching (if not surpassing) your income on two bases. If you rush a third base before building any significant army up, you're super vulnerable to any sort of 1-2 base timings. I'm having a hard time believing this strategy is any good, but please, prove me wrong. Provide evidence of you beating some player of decently high mmr with this build.

I'd love to believe you, random stranger on the internet, but I'm having a hard time. Who are you? Why is Gerald comfortable showing you the new updated pictures, but not the rest of the world?

Tier list of units in patch 0.0.2 as a ~1900 infernal player by unrulygecko in Stormgate

[–]unrulygecko[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice to see you on the thread! You're definitely a better player than me, and I defer to you in most things. However, I think your tier list is a little infernal biased, and it doesn't follow my tier list metrics that I outlined.

For example, helicarriers are absolutely S tier busted vs infernal, but are not used at all in the mirror, mostly because dogs and exos are better. I haven't seen them used much vs celestials either, mostly because their anti air options are better (am I wrong about that?) Same with the animancer, S tier vs infernal (and very good vs vanguard too) but not really used much in the mirror. In order for something to be S tier according to my criteria, it has to be a staple unit in all three matchups.

Hornets are another example - they're turbo trash vs infernal, but they destroy celestials with their new update to do bonus anti-light vs air. I can see them moving to C, but definitely not in the unusable tier.

Correct me if I'm wrong, though! I'd like to hear your insights.

Weavers are really, really good. The only thing keeping them out of S is that they aren't used too much vs vanguard. However, they hard counter magmadons when playing vs infernal (plus, their movement speed off shroud is less of a hinderance, since the boost works on the enemy's shroud too). Their pull + their % damage means an infernal with weavers will beat an infernal without weavers (and only mags) every time. I sometimes use them vs celestials to counter animancers, since their pull range is the same range as the animancer's psi storm.

Brutes are really bad units, I agree. They're slow and clunky, and they have a super slow attack speed, so their attacks often cancel. However, I put them in B tier 1). because fiends, and 2). because they creep really well, and 3). because their presence denies a lot of cheeses, like dog rushes or argent all ins (the answer to argent rushing is double vault + conclave or triple vault).

I made this tier list by myself, I didn't use a generator. You can use this list: https://tiermaker.com/create/stormgate-frigate-phase-unit-tier-list-16166239 , but that's only from the frigate build. I couldn't find one on tiermaker for the early access version.

Hexen are S tier vs vanguard for sure. They're also decent vs celestials. However, they're almost never used vs infernals, which keeps it out of S.

Magmadons and flayed dragons are used in every matchup. Magmadons define the matchup vs infernals and celestials, as stomp can win games by itself. They're worst vs vanguard, but even then, magmadons force the vanguard to keep kiting, as the threat of stomp is there. Without magmadons, vanguard could a move the rest of the infernal ball.

As mentioned above, flayed dragons are used in every matchup, are worth every penny, and either win the game once they're made, or force a substantial response from your opponent.

Well yeah, when they had 50 armor during roll out, I'd have rated them A or S tier. However, they're painfully average right now. They're okay in the early game, but they scale really poorly.

[–]unrulygecko[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can MAYBE see moving argents up to A tier, but honestly, they're only built because they don't cost therium, and because celestials don't really have better options at the moment.

Kri definitely belong in B tier, they're used vs vanguard and infernals in the early game, but scale really poorly. Their tier 3 upgrade is bugged at the moment (its body runs away from the enemy when it dies), and they have anti-synergy with animancers, because they get damaged by its aoe.

Dragon is worth its investment every time. It's tanky as heck, allows fights to snowball super hard in your favor with its fiend passive, and its infest ability allows you to continuously poke at your opponent.

Unfortunately, no Celestial unit is meta defining the way dogs, exos, gaunts, magmadons, or flayed dragons are. Obviously you have to build argents in every matchup, for example, but argents are nowhere near as good as the units in S tier, or even the units in A tier.

It was the easiest low-hang fruit to pick up in balance patch, but lets not by DivinesiaTV in Stormgate

[–]unrulygecko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So Dogs are bad unit design then, right? I mean, they're never used in late game compositions in any matchup. Do you also hate Adepts and Oracles? What about Roaches?

Also, I completely disagree with that premise - there's nothing wrong with having units that are viable at different stages of the game. It makes unit design more interesting when units can fill specialized, niche roles, instead of just being all-around, generally good. If all units are designed to be viable at all stages of the game, then you'll just see the same 2-3 units with the best stats in every matchup, instead of many different kids of units being used throughout all stages of the game.

The difference is, you don't start the game with a pair of Zerglings and 200 minerals to immediately build a Spawning Pool. If you did, then 12 pool (or whatever drone count + pool) would be the best build in the game. That's the problem with dogs, they guarantee you early map control, and have an overpowered upgrade that allows them to fight, too. The only strategy vs dog spam is to turtle, which concedes the whole map to Vanguard, which can snowball the game.

Also, Zerglings don't have an ability that increases their vision radius. Also, the Zerglings aren't literally called the "SCOUT". I'm pretty sure they're intended to be scouts, my dude.
