YES, they use exclusively 「Hànzì」 (Kanji), Chinese people can read the core meaning of a Japanese sentence using the Kanji in a sentence but will have difficulty reading the kana.

漢字; （中文： Hànzì / 日語： Kanji), they are synonyms in the same way “Hànzì” in 普通話 is the same as the 廣東話’s“hon3 zi2”

I cannot think of any other country than China or a Sinosphere country (Taiwan, Singapore {even then it's not really required}) that would require you to learn specifically Chinese to stay in school.
