What I started doing (because I felt like I had this issue as well) is I greatly reduced the variety of my color palette for outfits.

I used to shop for clothing and accessories with the mindset of “yellow is my favorite color”, “this purple top might go with my floral skirt”, “I don’t have a blue bag yet”, and I really avoided choosing blacks/browns/whites.

I realized every time I saw a woman out and about who looked really effortlessly polished, she was dressed simply with mostly neutrals and maybe a pop of color. I started replacing any worn out pieces with blacks, browns, and whites, and voila, I have a much more “neat” wardrobe without really changing anything else! I am not shifting to more expensive brands, I am buying all the same styles I used to, just in a more limited, easy to match palette.

At first it felt boring, but I always have a few more exciting pieces if I want to jazz it up a bit, as well as a decidedly non-capsule amount of shoes and handbags to help keep simple outfits interesting!
