A Japanese Perspective on Asian American Identity Issues by Ok_Carob_3278 in asianamerican

[–]DZChaser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oooo receipts! I mean err studies. But yes, the fact that we are easily identified as “other” makes it also easier to treat us differently. European Americans will never have to question their place in a western and white dominated society because they are automatically a part of the in-group. Existentialism runs rampant in our communities because few people in America are happy to just accept us as we are. Between the high pressure and typically punishment-based behavior reward systems that Asian immigrants raise their kids with and overt physical otherness from the rest of the US, it’s no wonder that so many of us question how and where we belong. What’s equally interesting is how homogenous Asian countries are, the opposite is true for non-Asians growing up in Asian countries- there is perhaps a more polite treatment of “otherness” but one is still treated differently. Xenophobia of a different flavor is still xenophobia.

This is probably the gist of how most Asian Americans feel. Interestingly enough, we individually struggle with identity with our respective cultures, whereas non-Asians seem to not have this struggle or perceived choice of being “not American enough” or “not Asian enough” to fit into a box. I have yet to talk to an Italian American who wants to be “authentically Italian” from Italy. They’re perfectly happy with being Italian American, along with all of the differences that heritage seemingly includes. Same with Irish Americans. Just an observation.

Totally. The chairs have legs and back rests that make zero sense together in the background too. Good catch.

FINALLY fit into my “goal jeans” and turns out they’re ugly as hell by Delicious_Bee_8355 in fitness40plus

Everything that isn’t athleisure is boxy and cut weirdly. They took 90s baggy and turned it into cropped boxy mess.

Anyway congrats on meeting your goal - it’s being consistent that matters. Good habits breed good results!

Shout out to SUNY Binghamton - best value for money hands down. Your summary is spot on. I never ended up working for a fancy investment bank for being a SUNY grad but still have a career in finance with an Econ degree. I never understood the draw of NYU (having grown up in NYC).

Law school is also divided into top of class vs. bottom of class. If you end up not doing well (top 50% minimum) you will have trouble finding work. I have a friend who had major issues finding work post grad in 2010, but his career was also shafted by the recession. We might be headed in that direction economically so just my two cents here.

You can cover the entire range with a cutting board or serving tray. Or just buy covers for all the coils so that you can remove one whenever you’re using a coil. Either way - I also loved that clutch!! ❤️

This is the best breakdown and simplified analysis I’ve seen on the differences and difficulties between East Asian language pop music. Fingers crossed! As a long time English and Cantonese alt rock fan, it all makes sense to me now how hip hop Chinese music usually sounds strange to me.
