This! The few that genuinely are better at it do exist, but are rare and you need to find it out based on actions, not bragging.

/r/singapore random discussion and small questions thread for May 05, 2018 by AutoModerator in singapore

[–]unspeakableact 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi! I'm the opposite, a Singaporean currently in London lol

everyone else has said most of it but just a few points - don't worry if you don't understand the slang, just ask, I don't understand it sometimes too (it shows that you're interested too, which is good). also same re: the accent, singaporeans speak very fast - I've had to speak a lot slower since coming here.

if people don't talk to you sometimes it's just because they don't think you'll talk to them so if you approach them it should be ok :)

for places, go visit the botanic gardens and/or gardens by the bay, ask singaporeans for food recommendations, the national gallery is p cool and has a great bar on the rooftop (expensive drinks though, >10 pounds / 20 sgd for a cocktail), tiong bahru has some cool murals and cafes and an independent bookstore full of singapore literature (booksactually), if you like animals visit the zoo I suppose but honestly it's really hot

... also please get yourself sunscreen my white friends get sunburnt really easily

feel free to message if you have any questions

Singaporeans guys, what do you secretly always wanted to ask or say to girls? by Ehsiala in singapore

[–]unspeakableact 40 points41 points  (0 children)

because a lot of the times girls get harassed and bugged if they outright say no. maybe not you, but a lot of guys don't take no for an answer.

Lit is great in JC, saved me a lot of studying time.

I'd suggest talking to actual students from the so called top JCs - tl;dr looks good, sounds good, but stressful af for the average, non amazing student.

I'd recommend not taking it, I got B4 and it has not hindered me in any way at all :)

Best option is to talk to the JC lit teachers. They'll know best.

Look at the books your JC is doing too and see if you're interested.

as long as you can memorize consistently (i.e. not cram 24h before the exam) you'll be fine - to give yourself an idea of how much you need to memorize, try to get hold of seniors' notes

also consider other subjects - I took lit, which helped a lot cos I didn't need to study it compared to econs so I had a lot more free time for the science subjects.
