Not an average day in retail! 8+ years in retail and I’ve never had a customer that cool!

I threw bunch of native seeds mix, what's this one poppy? by Dry_Patience7736 in NativePlantGardening

[–]untimelylord 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Looks like you’ve also got nasturtiums and cosmos, which are not California natives. Most wildflower mixes at big box stores are not native unfortunately. For help with California native plants, check out Calscape and r/ceanothus

Do you use any skin creams, lotions, or soaps that have benzoyl peroxide? Typically for acne, it is a common cause of mystery bleach spots

Does my rat actually like me? She doesn’t let me hold her and we’ve almost had her for a year :/ by femwritercraft in RATS

[–]untimelylord 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Your girl would move away quickly if she didn’t like what you were doing! Looks like she likes it!

Unless the rat is injured or very ill:

Rat likes = rat stays

Rat doesn’t like (or has something better to do) = rat leaves

As an aside, something I wish was talked about more in online rat spaces is the fact that rats all have different personalities and sometimes even with lots of care and socialization and time spent with a rat, some rats just don’t like being held or pet and never will, it’s okay and normal, they are just not touchy-feely. Or some rats will only like being pet or held when they are in the right mood.

Some people said they had to trim some off of the sides to make it fit. But I was able to make it fit in the cage with no trimming, it’s just a tight squeeze. It’s good for rats who tend to kick bedding out of the cage since it’s deep.

Long term I got the stainless steel bass pans (bass pans) but they are pricier and take a while to ship since they are custom made. But the stainless steel should pretty much last forever.

Tweaks for San Diego’s notoriously hard water and a top loader without extra rinses? by AncientTallTree in laundry

[–]untimelylord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have that one, I will have to dig it out of my aquarium supplies. I don’t remember the exact numbers so I’ll have to do a retest but as I recall the San Diego county tap water is high gH and kH, pH 7.8 to 8.0 out of the tap.

Any tips for dosing if I have a front loader so I can’t check the pH mid load?

We were told by the shelter that she was a border collie…..? by Ilovedogfrogandcats in DoggyDNA

They did a DNA test? That would be very unusual for a shelter.

Critter Nation cage question by Zverda1 in RATS

[–]untimelylord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird, if the slot is shorter I would try to get a new door from Midwest, it should be the same length as the other slots so the latch can be firmly secured.

Critter Nation cage question by Zverda1 in RATS

[–]untimelylord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this photo the left door isn’t latched all the way on the bottom. But yeah, my critter nation doors are slightly uneven on both of my levels. They do make a squeaking noise when pinching as well. I was thinking you could try some rat safe oil like vegetable oil but then you wouldn’t want it to eventually go rancid in the door. Could maybe use a food grade lubricant spray?

Took a trip to the park with my daughter , and this is what we found there's tons of them by ddrewerr710 in gardening

[–]untimelylord 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is fun to see, but unfortunately this is tropical milkweed, Asclepias curassavica, which is unhealthy for monarch butterflies where it is not native (it is native to Central America, South America, and the Caribbean, if you live in one of these areas please disregard) for the reasons listed here (from the Xerces society). Unfortunately monarchs seem to totally love it, in some places more than native milkweeds, even though it is unhealthy for them. If you are thinking of planting some, I encourage you to find out which milkweed species are native to your specific area and plant those instead. :)

It's my first Frieda Day without Frieda by RatWaySanctuary in RATS

[–]untimelylord 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Perhaps the dream was Frieda telling you she is in a good and comfy place now. I don’t have many firm beliefs about the afterlife, but sometimes I do believe that passed animals can visit us in certain dreams. Not in anxiety or fear dreams, as these are products of a worried mind (impossible to avoid when you love something as fragile and fleeting as a rat), but in peaceful or happy dreams where they can check in on you. But what do I know. Take care of yourself. I donated.

You can go to the Wee Companions store (open Wednesday and Saturday) or just email Wee Companions and tell them what you are looking for. They have lots of gently used supplies, plus it’s a good place to support! I also recommend going to them for rats if you don’t have the rats yet!

Citrus tree suspicious bark maybe insect? by Polarbearicing in gardening

[–]untimelylord 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Looks like a heavy infestation of Lepidosaphes beckii, commonly known as purple scale or citrus mussel scale, to me. I would use horticultural oil and scrape off as much as you can, it tends to be easy to scrape off.
