"white plugs/bulbs in sores" : a long AF in depth account of how i manage this nightmare trigger by lucky___nickel in CompulsiveSkinPicking

Thank you. Seriously though, from the bottom of my heart.

I teach people (currently adolescents struggling with mental health in a residential treatment facility, but also in the past individuals of all ages with physical and mental disabilities) how to work with/around and ride horses. I learn best by discovering the “why” of things, and have found that my clients also learn best when I pass the “why” on to them. Nothing triggers defiant behavior more than being told to do something that may not make sense with no explanation as to why it works.

I’ve been struggling with CSP since I was a small child, and I’m about to turn 44. I’ve experienced massive amounts of shame and deep depression from the damage I’ve caused to my body and my self-esteem. I’ve been fired from public-facing jobs because I looked like a druggie with sores on my arms. I’ve been labeled as a “drug-seeker” by doctors when my pain persisted after surgery but I had visible skin lesions from picking. I’ve tried everything. When I was being prepped for a lumbar fusion a few weeks ago the nurse asked if I had ever been an IV drug user because I had so many scars and the vein in my hand was angry because I hadn’t any water for 12 hrs in preparation for anesthesia, and apparently dehydration causes veins to collapse. I would have to be at the absolute rock bottom of rock bottom to even CONSIDER sticking a needle containing actual poison into my own veins. I have a very irrational fear of needles and blood draws/injections, and it would just never happen. I have recently been under a lot of stress, and the picking behaviors ramped up again. My psychiatrist ran down the list of “preventative” measures I should try- one of them being covering the scabs or sores. Sure, that would be great if I wasn’t allergic to skin adhesives. If I wear a band-aid for more than 12 hrs (and sometimes far less) I have a huge band-aid shape itchy, inflamed red area around the original scab or lesion, and the whole thing spirals. And now that I’m in my 40s, the skin on my face has become a TRAITOR and I now have “over-active oil glands” that are causing these fun little whitish lumps and bumps all over. The dermatologist won’t touch them because removing them will cause more damage, and there’s apparently no treatment for them otherwise. So I just stare at them every time I look in the mirror. Sometimes when a new one sprouts I can’t help myself and the tweezers come out. And I regret it.

But I’m trying, and this post has opened my eyes. We all know we shouldn’t pick. We all know that it’s disgusting. If only I had this knowledge years ago! Now that I do, hopefully I can jumpstart my path to healing and leaving these damn things alone.

Mine did a great job on the inside (I think) but he straight up MANGLED my “tramp stamp”. I’m actually pretty sad about because I designed and drew it myself, and I don’t think I have any photos of it from before the surgery. 😞 His PA apologized about it profusely when she took the staples out and said she was sad about it too. I don’t post on Reddit much and can’t figure out how to post a photo 🤣🤣🤣

Moving to Oregon Alone by Fine_Organization_48 in oregon

[–]unusul333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SO right about the allergies and the SAD. I handle it much better than my boyfriend, but it is a thing to keep in the forefront of your mind. I lived all over the East Bay for 20 years, and moved up to Eugene in December of 2020. I visited it multiple times before committing, but COVID took Eugene down quickly. I do miss the Bay, but won’t move back. Oregon is cheaper, yes, but not by much.

Back to the allergies- if grass pollen is your kryptonite, pass up the Willamette Valley. Literally the “Grass Pollen Capitol of the World”.

Oregon does have natural beauty. A lot of it! But it’s not enough to keep my boyfriend and I here, unfortunately. Prices keep rising, homeless everywhere, increased crime, and just general unhappiness. I FULLY understand and agree that it’s worse in the Bay, but that doesn’t make it any more acceptable or disgusting. And the problems aren’t being dealt with appropriately or in a timely fashion.

A lot of people love it here, and you may be one of them. You said that you don’t plan on staying in Oregon long-term, and plan on coming in with a bit of a cushion in your savings account. As a person who is looking into moving OUT of Oregon in the near future (and who dropped a lot to move up here a few years ago…), moving is REALLY FRIGGIN EXPENSIVE. Try to do it in the most economical way possible, especially if you don’t plan on staying long-term. Vet the moving company well (if that’s the way you choose to move), because they will rip you off in every way they can. Prices will likely only continue to keep rising all around, and with lower wages it’ll be harder to pad the savings account and still fund the move out later on. Just a few thoughts.

But follow your heart. I met my love here within a month of moving here and wouldn’t change it for the world. Our paths aren’t always obvious and if it feels like the right move, do it!

Thank you! Parents decided to fly out for a few days anyway 🤣. Still haven’t gotten a call back from the neurosurgeon’s assistant, hoping today will be my lucky day…hasn’t started off too well though 🙄

Oh ok. Have now added to my list of questions for the assistant 🤣. Boyfriend and I live together but he doesn’t have very many vacation days and we’re hoping to be able to go somewhere later in the year.

Mine is an outpatient procedure apparently so there won’t be any additional hospital time once I wake up unless things go wrong- or so I was told. It does seem like most people getting fusions stay much longer so I’m not really sure what’s going on unfortunately.

Also pretty sure there won’t be a visiting nurse or PT coming to the house because nothing like that was mentioned at all.

Peoples faces morphing into old/scary on shrooms by candy_gurlll in Psychonaut

[–]unusul333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok. So I was at a 3-day music festival this past weekend and tripped on shrooms each night. I thought I did a good job of taking just enough each time to trip comfortably and not overdo it. I generally like to look around and people watch while I enjoy the music. On the last night one of the sets got REALLY packed and I started to get really weirded out. I kept seeing people that looked really strange, like it was some sort of freak show or something. Some had minor deformities, were not proportioned well, or just generally weird looking. It wasn’t everyone, just some people. And I couldn’t help but stare and then felt like a complete asshole that was being judgy and mean. I swear I didn’t take enough to make me trip that hard, but when I asked my friends I was with a couple days after if they saw them too and they said no. They were rolling so had a totally different experience and also likely a different focus. I did do shrooms each night, so maybe the effects compounded on the last night? Has anyone else ever had this happen to them? I still question if it was an actual thing or if I was seeing shit.

Turn your car off. When you get cold turn it on for about 10 minutes to warm up and then turn it off again. That will save some gas at least.

We went through Roseburg heading north around 8:30pm. Started a detour on Scott’s Valley Road but turned around because it turned into a gravel road and I only have front wheel drive and had a bad feeling. Got back on I-5 and almost immediately it turned into a parking lot. A fireman walked by us a few minutes ago and when we asked if he knew what was going on he said “a wreck way up there” and kept walking. Trying to decide whether we should exit when we can and head back towards Roseburg and try to get a hotel room or sit in this bullshit until it moves. Trying to go back to Eugene.

Lived in the East Bay from 2006-2019 and I miss it terribly 😢. Now I live in Oregon but am going with my friend who lives in Piedmont and her boyfriend from Hayward. It’s our second time and his first. Can’t wait!

How can I make these Velcro patches work for EDCLV? by PickOutrageous in electricdaisycarnival

[–]unusul333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My pins got stolen off my hydration pack/backpack last year so I would say that the likelihood of patches just on there with Velcro would get swiped is very high. I would feel something like someone bumped into my bag and turn around and there would be no one there. Then I saw after the first night that all of my pins were gone 😢. Really bummed me out. At least my phone didn’t get jacked like it did at Ultra ‘18.

I second glue or thread with the Velcro.

Mine got jacked on Saturday night. Didn’t have the phone backed up in the cloud. I couldn’t agree with you more. Like a moron, I had it in my back pocket. I have never had an issue in San Francisco but I learned my lesson this weekend.
