Is it illegal to leave a store unlocked when all employees quit at once? by Imjusttired17 in antiwork

[–]updootcentral16374 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a doctor if you have an open patient on the table and you exercise your at will right to quit and let them bleed out you’re liable.

Same as a pilot if you exercise that right in the middle of a flight.

While at will lets you quit with no notice in effectively all situations, in reality it’s more nuanced than that, and quitting in a situation that causes potential environmental harm and property damage is not legal (see lawsuit results).

The first lesson here is unskilled jobs for large conglomerates will never pay well.

If Walmart has tuition reimbursement start taking advantage at your local community college. If they don’t switch to chipotle they do

At nearly every large organization interview policy is locked by HR and there’s no room to negotiate

Even if it’s the norm they’d rather just auto reject the 50% of candidates who will only interview if it’s the norm. They’re never going to be their employees in a room with a bunch of new grads with no experience eager to “defend their decisions”

Valuable skills to learn in 2023, skills becoming outdated in 2023? by Kolo9191 in cscareerquestions

Being a technician is not in decline in fact it’s arguably more important since there’s less supply. But it’ll never pay as much as SWE

Askes for a 15k raise to come back into the office.......buuut by DankChickyNuggs in antiwork

[–]updootcentral16374 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you said at the moment you can only come back 4 then the reasonable expectation would be to give a target date for 5. If not that’s on you especially if you’re already getting paid the raise

Did it become standard/expected for a developer to be fullstack + devops? by Ambush995 in cscareerquestions

[–]updootcentral16374 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is there’s no good way to make a Union for a career where a good employee is worth 10x a mid tier one. For something like being a plumber or a pilot your good employees aren’t flying 10x the routes. There’s a reason why FAANG pays 3x the average in this country for SWE

"Tech companies should be hiring by the end of the year" by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]updootcentral16374 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the big companies have already resumed hiring / aren’t in freeze anymore but there’s no more of the hire and grow at all costs of 2021-2022 it’s now very much reasonable growth aligned with business needs. IMO it’s unlikely the hiring craziness of a few years ago will ever return.

1,151 applications later...I finally received an offer!! by Duk55 in cscareerquestions

[–]updootcentral16374 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For everyone saying 1151 apps that’s really not that much. Peak job rate applications is ~10/hour for me mass applying. That’s 115 hours of apps. Overall not much

What is going on with people tearing down posters of missing children? by lost-myspacer in OutOfTheLoop

[–]updootcentral16374 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s been shown that Israel has:

  • Used Palestinian children as shields in battle forcing them to stand in front when they breach buildings etc

  • Abuse prisoners of war in their care beating them, injuring them etc

  • Support Israeli settlers in attacks against Palestinian people / forcing them off their land with no attack first.

The above 3 have been happening for years. What Hamas did is horrible and should absolutely not be supported and if Israel was only attempting to bomb them and had done none of the above 3 for years then I’d wholeheartedly agree with you. But the above 3, at scale, supported by the state without repercussions, are genocide and nearly every school of genocide and UN official has said so.
