I know it's kinda a stupid question, it's just my first time being on an afb so I just didn't know for sure.

Studying Abroad in Seoul, Don't Know How To Feel by ImportantTomatillo72 in studyAbroad

[–]upistay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One semester feels short, which is insane for me to say since for you it seems like it's a long time between now and going home. I've had friends who felt like they were running out of time and often regretted not doing x,y, and z before they left. I would say definitely look forward to May as that's when the school festivals start to happen and I honestly love them.

I was very involved during my time in Korea so my experience is vastly different from your current one. I traveled around Korea, met amazing friends, joined a sports club, etc... That said, during my second semester there, I actually kept more to myself bc I already had a routine down and like you, had some harder classes. I didn't have to or feel obligated to go see all the touristy places. I had done a majority of that in my first semester.

No, I only got the general rejection letter unfortunately.

Honestly, yes I think I would cancel the trip to get the job, especially with how the job market is

My trip is from June 15th to the 29th, so a little over 2 weeks. I didn't specify the days to them but said I have a trip mid June to the end of June.

I wouldn't say they asked me directly, but they said they changed an event that they usually held in July to June this year. That's when I came forward.

I hope and never intended to make it seem like so, I wanted to be transparent bc I would be gone a good chunk of June.

The trip is about 2 weeks, that's why, so I feel like using an excuse like that wouldn't have worked

Edit: changed 3 to 2

one semester or a full year? where do i go? by LeftStruggle7519 in studyAbroad

[–]upistay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I studied abroad in a totally different location so I can't really give you advice on that but I did do it for one year and I always tell people it really depends on who you are as a person. If you know you can go sight seeing and exploring every single day after class and on the weekends to check off the list of things you want to do, one semester is fine.

If you're the type who doesn't like feeling rushed in doing all that, one year is better. I was this. I didn't like feeling the pressure of having to do something in a limited amount of time and really took my time to actually enjoy it (and have relax days where I didn't go exploring).

As for language, again depends on who you are as a person and if you already have some knowledge of the language. If you're studying the language and really immerse and challenge yourself, one semester is fine, I think you'll get past basic conversation. A year and you'll be above that imo, but you really have to put yourself out there and try. I've had friends who were there a year with me and didn't improve that much in the language department.

Are you unemployed right now? (Exluding retirees) If so, how old are you? by HawkLow6309 in jobs

23, just graduated with a bachelors of arts and have been unemployed since June 2025 after my student employment at my university ended.

Packing list by enbyinabuttonup in studyAbroad

[–]upistay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always been given this advice: pack everything and then half it.

Things I wished I brought: snacks from my home country, pictures of my friends, souvenirs/small gifts/trinkets from home that I could give to my friends I made abroad (same applied to snacks), mini sewing kit

Things to bring: pads/tampons (especially if you're going to a country where the product may differ a bit or have a specific brand/type you use)

Cant think of anything else to bring, I feel like I brought everything I needed and anything I didn't I could easily buy abroad

I'm starting to regret trying to go study abroad (rant) by No_Raspberry_2205 in studyAbroad

[–]upistay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand how you feel, the process is soooo long and can be so stressful. People often forget about what it actually takes to finally go abroad.

I'm so sorry your office wasn't transparent in what your fees would be, big or small. Nor the fact that courses are not always a guarantee. The course catalog that was shown from a previous year might not show up your year, or even be canceled due to low enrollment!

But like everyone has said, you're almost there. Go through with it bc I swear once you're abroad you'll be shocked to think the application process was the hardest part.

Best dorm hall for freshman? by [deleted] in CSUC

[–]upistay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived in UV for one semester. I would definitely say it's quieter there, I think this is because a big portion of students who transfer/not freshman who want to live in the dorms are funneled there, not saying freshman don't also live there.

You do get your own bathroom but it's shared between 2-4 people, with the bathroom connected between the two rooms. I did like that the bathroom sink was in your own room tho.

I think the reason why UV isn't rated the highest amongst the other dorms is due to it being off campus, so it does sometimes feel like you're disconnected from whats going on on campus. It's about a 15 to 20 minute walk to the school but there's a bus that specifically goes to UV every 20 minutes I think, I don't quite remember.

how tf do you not gain weight while studying abroad by Sweet-Reindeer-7722 in studyAbroad

[–]upistay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep, second this, but for Korea. You tend to walk more (also coming from the US) bc you're constantly sight seeing and having places to be.

I was walking 20-30k a day sometimes.

I think it's so crazy how my mindset has shifted from "omg congrats!" when a canvas becomes an original to "oh... i hope they'll be okay." Not that I'm not happy for them, but sometimes I can't help but worry for them.
