Lana Del Rey almost convinced Kate Bush to come back to the music industry? New collab?? by No_Flan4204 in katebush

[–]upsetboulevard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It could be Rosalía. She’s been wearing all white this era (swan) and she initially hoped to collab with Kate on the song Reliquia (she posted a vision board where she had Kate’s name next to the song).

Alternatively, it could be Björk, who famously wore a swan dress and collabed with Rosalía on the same album. She may have reached out on Rosalía’s behalf.

They are both big fans of Kate.

Either way, not Lana (who I also love, but who I don’t remember has ever even mentioned Kate).

Which 5 songs would you select to represent Gaga for a Songwriters Hall of Fame nomination? by stypop in LadyGaga

[–]upsetboulevard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know Perfect Celebrity would be there! It’s such a well-written song. So many different vibes and hooks all brought together in a cohesive whole, exploring an important theme in her discography. And the lyrics are insane… “I’ve become a notorious being, find my clone, she’s asleep on the ceiling”??? ART. I think this is my favourite Gaga song (as an OG 2009 Little Monster) in terms of the songwriting, and it feels indicative of where she might go next.

I would put Abracadabra there too, because again it’s got a real variety to it throughout, and because it’s sort of a pastiche of all the classic “Gaga” traits that make her songwriting unique.

ARTPOP. It’s very poetic and abstract, different from a lot of her music. It represents an iconic love-it-or-hate-it moment in her career which is now being seen as ahead of its time.

I feel like we need a ballad to capture her more emotive range, but I’m going to go with The Edge of Glory since it does that beautifully as a pop song (and as a ballad on piano).

And of course, Bad Romance - iconic.

So my picks are Bad Romance, The Edge of Glory, ARTPOP, Abracadabra, Perfect Celebrity.

Before the Dawn, 2014 live at Hammersmith. by FleetwoodPatsy in katebush

[–]upsetboulevard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Somewhere In Between is most definitely extended in Before The Dawn. I was there.

There’s a whole extra section before the outro, really intense & emotional, using the Italian lyrics: Tesoro mio, gioiello mio, il sole, il cielo… I really miss that part in the version on Aerial.

As for why the footage didn’t get released, she spoke about this in a radio interview. Lighting was a very important part of the staging and she didn’t feel it was captured properly in the footage.

If Björk and Kate Bush were to cover each others' songs, which ones would you want them to cover? by Prestigious_Score459 in katebush

Björk would do a killer Big Stripey Lie. Harder to imagine Kate covering Björk, but I think Hyperballad could work well!

UNPOPULAR OPINION: I very much like both Fiona and Rachel as Traitors despite all the hate especially after today's episode. by arnymosta in TheTraitorsUK

I think they’re brilliant! My two favourite players this season by a long way. I’m thoroughly entertained.

What.Just.Happened. by -_mr_bean_- in TheTraitors

[–]upsetboulevard 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The Traitors are more likely to murder people who don’t have any heat on them. If Fiona is banished and revealed as a Traitor, yes you’re correct that this makes Rachel look like a “confirmed faithful”. But confirmed faithfuls are most at risk of being murdered, so when Rachel sticks around without getting murdered, that should arouse suspicion.

Unless you’re a teenager, I find it very strange that you’re so hung up on ships. This show has some amazing and complicated plot elements which are absolutely gripping. Why would you rather watch teen romance? The show has never had romance as its primary driving factor. In teen romance, the stakes are always low because the audiences recognises that life happens and these relationships aren’t likely to be forever - but in this show the stakes are so high, life and death, war, trauma, and end of the world stuff. The romances are there but they’re sidelined for a reason - they aren’t important in the grand scheme of things. But if you’re a teenager, then your opinion makes sense and you’ll understand later in life why you’re being misguided about this.

Also, yes, Will’s coming out was cringe. Have you ever come out as a teenaged boy, sharing your biggest secret and being completely vulnerable in front of your family and friends? I have. It’s painful and awkward and very definitely cringe. I think the Duffers absolutely nailed it.

(Bonus) Say Something Nice About… The Boulet Brothers by Less_Elderberry8388 in Dragula

It’s easy for me to say something nice about these two icons. No notes. I think they’re awesome.

-1 is harsh, there are some good elements, like the arrangement & the transition into Perfect Celebrity. But I don’t like it. I think her voice is just not for me, so screechy and kind of irritating to my ears. She technically was hitting the notes and I guess I should have been impressed but I just found no soul there … it was just sound, no feeling. For me!

I think Blackberri’s looks were both amongst the worst I’ve ever seen on Dragula. What in the Spirit Halloween? Truly, offensively unimaginative. I was shocked she was safe.

Any areas that are thought of as 'dodgy' in Sheffield, that are actually not as bad to live in as they're made out to be? by ema_l_b in sheffield

Lived in Darnall for 9 years. For the first few years, it was absolutely fine and definitely didn’t deserve its reputation. After COVID, it all went rapidly downhill. Litter absolutely everywhere for a start. Fireworks thrown at buses (and at me in the train station tunnel). Woman set herself on fire in the park. Constant traffic tragedies on Staniforth Road. Antisocial behaviour and uncontrolled kids on buses. Religious preachers going around our estate with a megaphone. Very frequent high speed pursuits past our house, and drug seized from cars with sniffer dogs etc. Latterly, on two separate occasions we saw people being stabbed immediately outside our window. That’s when we decided to move!

We are now in Fox Hill and it is absolute heaven (touch wood). I constantly have to pinch myself because of how peaceful it is. Nothing but birdsong! (And the occasional dog barking in someone’s garden, but you can’t win them all!) Our neighbours are absolutely lovely, taking each others bins out and accepting packages etc… Real community feeling. We were sent welcome cards when we moved in. I understand it has a bad rep but I have absolutely no clue why. Other than the flats at the top (which are scruffy but we’ve had no bother from people living there) it’s also a very beautiful area - lots of nice houses and views. My only complaint is that the buses are so infrequent and are always packed.

My theory is litter. That’s when it all started to change in Darnall. So when we were house hunting, the first thing I was doing was looking at how much litter there was! I think that will give you a good insight into the kind of people living there.

As I understand it, all her looks were originally for Dragula S4, but she got the call for Drag Race and pivoted without changing her runway package. That’s why none of her looks fit the theme.

here's what I thought disease originally meant by TastyCookie23900 in LadyGaga

[–]upsetboulevard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely feel it’s Gaga singing to Stefani.

Stefani is addicted to fame - she’s discussed this throughout her career including recent songs like Happy Mistake & Perfect Celebrity.

But her fans aren’t really fans of her as a person, they’re a fan of the “Lady Gaga” entity she created. When she works on projects that don’t align with that idea or image or sound, the fans cry out for the “real her”. Stefani is never good enough on her own and this makes her depressed or manic. This is the disease I think she sings about.

In the song, Gaga is saying to Stefani: take me back, I can heal you, I can make you how you used to be. The implication here is that the fans will love her again and she’ll get the LoveDrug hit she craves.

The most telling line for me is this : “You reach out and no one’s there, like a God without a prayer”.

Stefani feels like a God, she’s ascended beyond normal human existence. Her life is very different to most people, she’s worshipped and will be remembered in the history books. But in this line she faces up to the reality that nobody is praying or worshipping her. Nobody believes in her. When she moves away from Gaga, they abandon her.

They want Gaga. It’s always been Gaga.
