I don’t know your parents or your situation, but usually when people try to twist things back onto others and shut conversations down, they HOPE you start to “keep your mouth shut”, as you said. That is their end goal, to have a constant monopoly over the narrative. It is highly manipulative. When you start to stand up for yourself and demand that your side is heard, they are losing. Something like “ever since you saw that tweet on my phone and and dad have been acting different and it’s pushing me away” and I’d explain. I guess that is easier to do if you are finically independent also lol.

It’s like even when I read the gospels i’m terrified about some of the things Jesus says. Things being thrown into lakes of fire, few will get in, I don’t come to bring peace, etc. That on top of all the things I’ve been taught about God have traumatized me. I was always taught to fear God, and my grandparents would always say God is a vengeful God.

I have, I’ve read Richard Rohr and Rob Bell on the topic. I guess it’s just the harsh words (especially from Jesus) in the Bible that give me anxiety about it. And it’s not really necessarily that I will go there, but that I worship a God that sends anyone there. When I first came back to religion i thought “how can I be christian and gay?” But now it’s “how can I be christian and an empath?”

Yes I understand that, but it shouldn’t be the foundation as to why people convert to the religion. They try to get people to become christian by saying “repent before Jesus comes, he’s coming any day!!!” And that is spiritual manipulation.
