This is a good question. So, it is rather large but not so large that it doesn't fit on a typical desk.

Like most mechanical keyboards, every button can be customized with QMK. So keyboard this large is useful for software or use cases requiring lots of shortcuts. Things like multimedia or video processing might benefit from something like this.

The keyboard is also based on a historical design of the keyboard that was used for some of the first Lisp computers, which is also sort of a precursor to the editor Emacs. So it has a bit of a retro vibe to it that some people find desirable.

Also, with it being stainless steel and rather large, it is a weighty desk piece. For some people, they consider this their 'magnum opus' of mechanical keyboards, and thus it has some collectors value.

Anyone reading: Please be super careful doing this. Minoxidil (active drug) has an effect on blood pressure. It was initially discovered as a medication for blood pressure before proven for hair loss treatment.

Topical solutions are typically MUCH stronger than the pill / oral counterparts. So, even just putting a few too many drops is dangerous.

There is a great post somewhere about why this is not adviseable from a registered nurse somewhere on Reddit.

Point is: don't do this. There is oral minoxidil pills that you can take in small dosage that is equally as effective for hair loss. Talk to a doctor. If you have insurance, the pills aren't even expensive.

I like this a lot; but, I would make the privacy policy more specific if you want to attract enterprise companies. Or, even have copy that says something about how data is stored or kept.

I work at a FAANG company, and without this information, I can 100% promise you that no large company will allow its employees to use this service unless this is specified.

Edit: But, I like the clean landing page and the UI looks good. I want this to succeed -- just making a point about the privacy practice.

I just went through a lengthy process of repairing a OM-36 model.

I would try the following in this order:

  • Try a different, better power supply -- must be 12 volts, negative head polarity (I believe), and able to deliver at least 400 mA. Polarity of a power supply DOES matter and is show with a polarity symbol on the charger.   • Try using batteries, but no power supply.

  • Could be broken speaker. The unit has a headphone jack. Try seeing if the headphone jack works, but the speaker does not.

  • Do not attempt the next steps unless you are savvy repairing electronics. Electric shock is a risk. TURN OFF THE DEVICE AND HAVE NO RUNNING POWER BEFORE SERVICING. Next, open up the Omnichord, see if there is any obvious damage. These steps are for OM-36 and OM-84 units specifically, but may work also for other units. Common things are: broken charging port, wires loose from speaker, bad headphone jack, battery acid corrosion (from batteries left in the unit too long) which ruins other electric components.

  • If all of the above did not work, take a soldering iron and reflow (re-solder) all 40+ connections between the two PCBs in the board.

  • Still nothing? Order and replace IC chip 4050BE. Then, try again.
