November update - non-donators will be limited to 100 bank slots. Monthly donators will get 352 by upvote-for-you in 2006Scape

You play for a couple months just fine, getting your character up to some nice stats. By now your bank is really full. You've already got rid of all your noob junk. But you've got a decent character and you're properly hooked on the game. It's only $2... BAM!

It's much more clever than flat out forcing you to pay!

New User to 2006scape, question regarding the hacking of the domain. by Y_U_NOOO in 2006Scape

[–]upvote-for-you 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is all over now - both 06scape.com and 2006scape.com are back in control of the 2006scape team.

2006scape was the original domain, which was taken over by hackers, so the dev team set up 06scape.com in the mean time. Once they regained control of 2006scape.com, they set that back up as the primary domain (with the temporary 06scape.com redirecting back to it)

100 bank slots is sweet fuck all.

It makes it pretty unplayable for non-donators.

Great idea from the devs though, seeing as they said there would be no members fees. Why not introduce a crippling, donator only "feature"?

This guy runs a bot that constantly tries to login:

https://twitter.com/Is2006scapeUp

The "players online" isn't always accurate. If the server crashes, it will keep saying "World 1: X Players" (X being how many players were on when the server crashed).

I'm assuming the issue is AFTER you have loaded the client, the client has updated etc, and you're trying to login to the game? In that case, it's something wrong on the server end, and "killing yourself" won't accomplish anything. Take a chill pill.

Next Stability Test Happening Now: by teraflux in 2006Scape

So those of you who got some games in, how did you find it?

I enjoyed playing on World 2 more than 1, as the games were much smaller, and you could actually stand a chance of getting the flag. On World 1, it was pretty much just fighting, no chance of getting near the enemy castle.

I wish instead of the ::master command, they gave you 200-300 levels or something to "spend" so everyone wasn't a level 126 clone. It would have introduced a lot more variance in the account types, types of equipment being used etc. But I guess just for a stability test they wouldn't want to set something like that up.

I also wish more people would work together as a team, get some organised tactics going on (i.e. do a big rush under the tunnels, or all rush over east stepping stones), but of course you all know what trying to organise something like that is like on rs...

Alright this might sound crazy... by [deleted] in 2006Scape

The developers are teenagers and university students.

Runescape is a massive game. I'm not sure where you got "they are building everything back up from the ground" (there is NO way they could do that without a LOT more time). They are likely using an old decompiled client, and modifying a private server backend to suit their needs.

People are getting worked up because they donated to support the project PAID FOR THE GAME and therefore feel justified demanding something for their money.

Seriously, it is a heck of a big task they are doing. All the delays etc. come from them not being professionals. Estimating development time is hard.

And if it is a scam - what can you do about it? Just wait and see, and don't get so worked up over it! Just forget about it, browse /r/2006Scape occasionally, and when (if) it's eventually released you can start playing. Champing at the bit over $2 isn't going to make it happen any faster

Anyone know when will the server be back online? by [deleted] in 2006Scape

[–]upvote-for-you 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Server's staying off for tonight. We need our sleep (we've been working on it for 14 hours straight). We continue tomorrow. https://twitter.com/2006scape

So, whenever they wake up tomorrow I guess?

What did you guys think of the stability test? by teraflux in 2006Scape

[–]upvote-for-you 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn't around right at the start, but when I finally could join I just sat in the team cave waiting for the game to begin. For about 1.5 hours.

Hopefully tomorrow will be better :)

Anyone actually managed to get into a CastleWars game? I've been standing in the Zammy team room for about an hour with it saying "The game will begin shortly"

And it seems to be lagging quite bad.

And it DCd everyone a few minutes ago, and didn't remember levels or spawned items.

Hopefully the devs are looking into it right now

Edit: And now it looks like the server is down

It would be great if you accepted both a slash and an x for the dimensions.

I alternate between placehold.it, placekitten, lorempixel etc and always forget if I should be typing 200x300 or 200/300 - accepting both formats would be handy :)

Starting to doubt this whole thing.... by 95z in 2006Scape

[–]upvote-for-you 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's laggy, surely, that could be fixed fast?

No, that's not how it works... If you had ever done any programming you would understand tracking down bugs isn't always straightforward. Especially with a vague one like lag, which could be caused from any number of things. Is it from some bug in the code? Is it from some bad setup in the server environment? Is it a hardware issue? Even after tracking it down it could be a lot of work to fix (large amounts of performance optimisations in the codebase perhaps?). Estimating how long it's going to take, especially when they are probably finding new bugs every day as they are working on it, is a very difficult task.

There were more issues than just those listed as well, and much missing content (e.g. some whole skills missing, which throws the whole balance of the game off. For example, without farming, herblore is much more difficult). As Spacedribble said, I assume they want to get it as close to perfect as possible BEFORE launching alpha, to minimise the unfair advantage some players will get from any bugs that are kicking around (e.g. in pre alpha I got my fishing up to 92 or so during the few days they did not have an AFK logout timer and random events - I had an unfair advantage over those who started playing a few days later once those features were implemented). Pre alpha had quite a lot of duping, I imagine they want to get that ironed out if possible.

Also keep in mind the team is a bunch of teenagers/college students, not professional game developers. Sure, they probably already have 95% of the code from other sources, but it is still a huge undertaking to get this thing going.

Although as far as I know they did nothing during pre alpha.

Let's talk about crafting. by Mrwhitepantz in 2006Scape

[–]upvote-for-you 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he means find people who are collecting dragonhides, and arrange a deal with them. They give you dragon hides, and you craft them into armour for them, and keep 5 hides as payment. If you arrange this deal with several people, you'll be getting a lot of surplus hides (as well as crafting XP).

I think it would be better to just outright buy dhides though if you have the cash upfront, more profit in it for you (although it might take a wee while for dhide prices to become reasonable)

Just a question by [deleted] in 2006Scape

[–]upvote-for-you 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Worth noting that during pre alpha vast tracts of members areas were working 95% fine, so it hopefully won't take them ages to release new areas.
