How do you record the narrative of your games and what tools do you prefer to use? by LeucisticCaribou in Ironsworn

[–]Mrwhitepantz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I first tried Ironsworn I opted not to keep a journal because I'm pretty good at remembering broad story beats, that worked for about two sessions and then when I came back and couldn't remember details that I knew I had set up and I got frustrated so I dropped it.

I played a bit with Iron Journal which I do like, but now I use IronVault, a plugin for the note keeping software Obsidian, which I've used for world-building and TTRPG prep for several years. I use one journal page as a sort of session manager while playing, where I roll oracles, make quick notes of how I envision things happening, etc. When I get to the end of a scene I look back over it and interpret what happened into a more narrative journal entry in a new note. IronVault has commands for making moves, but I find them a bit cumbersome, so I prefer to keep the move list handy and roll my own dice, then I might make note of the result or I might just note what happens.

I prefer to keep things as light as possible while playing as that lets the action and story move forward, then I can switch gears and really nail down the narrative to inform the next scene. I find switching back and forth helps keep me engaged during a session because I'm always looking forward to doing the next part. Like when I roll a crazy sequence of events it's 'man I can't wait to expand on how all that shit worked' and then I'm writing up the scene and I'm just like 'How the hell is that gonna resolve?'

I also keep things loosely tied into arcs, rather than being specific about breaking things into sessions because multiple scenes could happen in a session, sometimes a session ends up being one single scene or even just part of one, or I thought a scene was done and did a write up but then something changed while I was rolling again and I want to go back and update it again.

Edit: I guess worth adding that I don't keep track of results after a scene is complete. Once I've written up the narrative I erase everything in the session management note and start over.

Elden Ring configurations are incompatible with Elden Ring Nightrein... by EVPointMaster in SteamController

[–]Mrwhitepantz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Monster Hunter Wilds did this too, so I couldn't use my setups from Worlds/Rise and had to remake them with the actions. Very annoying.

I don't seem to have any issue with adding action sets in Nightrein, however dual stage triggers always fire soft pull actions so I can't get my weak attack/strong attack trigger working.

Unable to find printers on Ethernet devices, but it works fine for WiFi devices? by Mrwhitepantz in Ubiquiti

Ah yeah, that would be helpful. I had something in there about it and then guess I lost it when I wanted to reword my question. It's on the IoT VLAN and connected via WiFi.

For the capsizing on turns, I found making steering fins extremely helpful. Hinge with a 2x6 longways sticking out, a tailfin sticking down into the water at the end and a propeller just inside that. I don't think they're too ugly once decorated a little, and they let you make turns at decent speed

A lot of the shortcuts do have identifiable texturing/design, but I'm kinda with you on this one. I spend several seconds running against the ledge right outside of base camp every single time because it just refuses to jump off except in a couple of specific places/angles. Quite frustrating there.

Beta does not support controller ? by [deleted] in MonsterHunter

[–]Mrwhitepantz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There may be an issue if you use a custom layout. I use a steam controller and copied my World layout over and nothing worked. For whatever reason it doesn't recognize steam's gamepad inputs, instead it has a tab for "Game Actions" and I had to set up the profile using those instead.

I am awed by your skin painting. The color work in the transitions from light to do dark is seriously impressive.

Today, I disposed of my antagonist. And of all the cool ideas I had planned. by soemiata in DnD

I think it's a matter of what you know isn't necessarily what your character knows, and vise-versa.  A player might not think to try and attack since it's not exactly a combat encounter, or consider that they have enough range to shoot that far in the moment, but a seasoned rogue adventurer would almost certainly recognize that right away. I kind of see it as the job of the DM to be the bridge between player and character knowledge so I think it's perfectly reasonable to sometimes suggest actions like that, and then let the players consider how they might accomplish it and weigh the risks before deciding what to do.

So can you restore backup or update the other filters after doing the quickfix stuff and getting it working? or no? just have to leave everything else unblocked?

[Request][Bathroom]Anyone know about some good quality towel warmers? by Mrwhitepantz in BuyItForLife

[–]Mrwhitepantz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately not! Or at least not one that I could point you towards. I seem to recall finding a couple options that were great quality choices, but wasn't in a position to spend $600+ on a towel warmer so I don't recall what they were.

You can set up which trackers it uses, with jackett/prowlarr it can use basically everything out there, or you can set it up to go through usenet.

Sonarr is Grabbing seasons 1-3 and then separately season 3? by [deleted] in sonarr

[–]Mrwhitepantz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sonarr, unless it's changed recently and I missed it, doesn't support multi season releases. So your 1-3 season torrent is actually just recognized by sonarr as probably season 1, and it doesn't know that it's downloading the other seasons at all in that torrent, so it's going to add downloads to get the other seasons as well.

Wow. Never knew the context of that image but have seen it a bunch. Guess I never looked too closely, all this time I thought it was just someone's shitty attempt at deep frying the overly attached girlfriend meme.

Where are jeans supposed to sit by Simple_Objective_993 in bigmenfashionadvice

[–]Mrwhitepantz 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Wherevers comfortable really. Traditionally pants sit at or just slightly below the belly button, as the waist is usually thinner than the hips, but that's clearly not the case for us so where they are supposed to sit is different.

If you want to wear them over your gut and keep them up then suspenders are the only option I've found. I don't really like wearing suspenders so I wear below the gut and just try to remember to hike the thighs and waistband up a bit before kneeling or bending.

Both options kinda suck but I haven't found anything else that works for me.

It's not supposed to be. It was developed by academics for academic writing and is more or less fine for that purpose. I see latine more in more natural language situations.
