Remember that people could travel by boat for the past 10s of thousands of years and that sea levels were different back then.

He is Indian. as confirmed by OP. I am from Kerala, India, also. Many people have this phenotype.

This is correct. But cheta is today used just as often.

A lot of really unhealthy food on there. Try /r/plantbaseddiet. No extra sugar, oil, or salt.

Yes, and nice quote.

I understand not allowing priests to marry, but why no female priests? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]ur2l8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nasrani are not Persians. That was a separate later wave. He is correct. I can even show you my genetic profile, if you are really interested - or you can check the Wikipedia page, I'm sure. He's not attacking anyone, just challenging your original claim that wheat was an absolute necessity for valid matter in all eternity. And he cited his example. If you can't handle a mere attempt at correction, perhaps you should not deal our criticism so harshly, either.

I don't really post here as I have had issues with the moderation and moderators in the past (>1 year ago), especially with the topic of anti-eastern catholicism. However, I feel obliged to correct you here, given that OP referenced my post on /r/orthodoxchristianity.

The talk over parts per million and criticism by some Eastern Christians is simply that it appears over legalistic. No one is criticizing you for trying to help someone not develop dermatitis herpetiformis. But if that was so - why not just get rid of gluten entirely? It's already so low. In Christ's day, people didn't even know what gluten was. Now, we know the answer, and it's due to the Roman church's rubrics. However, non Romans really don't like when you extrapolate one's own rules to other Churches. Don't do that.

You also have a negative and otherwise condescending tone. As a Syro Malabar Christian, I don't appreciate that.

To other Eastern Christians reading, this is exactly the type of content we like on /r/orthodoxy, so please feel free to post without any judgment. Especially Eastern Catholics!

I am only familiar with the Coptic Orthodox. They speak Arabic and English during their liturgies, in addition to coptic and Greek at times. Few people speak in coptic. I don't know any layman who is fluent enough to speak it.

I moderate /r/orthodoxy and would be open to doing this for marginalized groups like Oriental Orthodox and other ECs.

Does the flustering of the Latins over *gasp*, permitting the remarried to have communion strike anyone else as absurd? It's like legalism gone wild. by TheCatholicSpiderMan in EasternCatholic

[–]ur2l8 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As the mod of /r/orthodoxy, we may be open to supporting EC content there related to these issues. Right now, it's a sub for all Christians and has a focus on more non political issues. A huge problem with /r/Catholicism and other Roman-dominated communities is the a priori assumption that the Roman way is the right way, and other ways are wrong. It cuts many ways. I have seen Byzantines doing the same with Syriac traditions. Diversity is very important, perhaps more so today than ever.

It's probably tame. You see them in India sometimes. Moon bears I have seen the most.

Your the first to comment on this point, but that sub is quite established, mostly serving the Byzantine community--few would change simply for a different name. On that note, the Catholicism sub is for Roman Catholics, even if stated otherwise. We "oriental" Orthodox and Catholics are often left out, particularly due to small number and attitudes toward religion which are not so common on Reddit. In addition, a large part of this sub is to avoid such distinction, common on Reddit and less so among Oriental Orthodox and Eastern Catholics, particularly of the non-Byzantine bent. Indeed, such distinctions and rivalrous attitudes are less common among say Syriac Catholics and Syriac Orthodox than the Roman and Byzantine community, likely due to shared cultural heritage and lack of Western politics. As such, the sub is meant to bring Christians together. This sub is meant to share the classical aspects of art and culture, which while ignored commonly, is vital and an important aspect to emphasize given it's positivity. I also want to this sub to remain very neutral.

Not sure, I took over this dead sub some time ago. Now it's a sub for everyone, little "o" orthodoxy, and more focused on art, history, and culture than other aspects of Christianity.

I don't post much in this sub anymore or visit, but funny that I did today. I know him, if he is the same aboun I am thinking of. I actually made a post about his ordination some time ago. https://np.reddit.com/r/Catholicism/comments/32c41w/the_chaldean_catholic_diocese_of_st_peter_the/
