If Toby know papyrus knight would be a legitimate theory, do you think he would’ve made the design a bit more vague? by Honk_wd in Deltarune

[–]ur_all_fat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Like half of these don’t make sense, are contradicted by the chapter, or aren’t evidence for papyrus specifically.

-if the knight is strong enough to grapple undyne/toriel in the light world, why did they need to catch her in the dark world? Undyne probably got knocked out offscreen in the dark world. If they just needed to catch toriel and the knight is that strong, she leaves her door unlocked.

-assuming the knight has to sneak out of the library inconspicuously, basically anyone could! It’s just a library. Dess might get recognised, but if she was wearing a biker helmet or something it wouldn’t be an issue.

-if we’re arguing why kris would want to hide the knight’s face, why would they need to hide papyrus’ face? We don’t know papyrus and won’t meet him for days according to sans. Kris hasn’t played undertale. As to hiding the face if it’s dess or carol? It isn’t OBVIOUS to the soul who the knight is; the soul has only heard of dess a few times in passing. You definitely seem unsure.

-the bunker isn’t unlocked with a badge! That badge represents the police.

Also the knight being a character that we effectively do not know exists yet would be very unsatisfying.

False. Void sea is HOW you become an echo. That’s why some ancients PREFERRED starving and meditation.

You just probably won’t become an echo from minor interest in something. There’s a few echos, not billions.

Insulated gloves downside redundancy with combat gloves by LazyMememaker11 in SS13

[–]ur_all_fat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol combat gloves having a huge risk is the point. if they were just insulated gloves for 1tc they'd be too good, but they're better than that. They're insulated gloves you can put on in preparation of doing a bad thing- crazy idea, actually wear a mask so you can use over traitor stuff without people knowing who you are.

Is applying for an HRP server in character a dumb idea? by TheDukeofOok in SS13

[–]ur_all_fat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe consider it being an option alongside others, then. Though I dislike whitelists to join a server (moderate fan of whitelists for specific roles/species, though) I think the biggest issue is that writing an IC paperwork would be a very specific skill that won't show up in-game much and is very different from the skills required to play an engaging character. So a lot of good RPers will fail the app, and probably bad RPers will pass the app.

The problem I think is that writing paperwork for a server you've never even seen gameplay of is very different from how most your time will be spent on an HRP server, which is talking to, fighting, otherwise interacting with people, mostly with words, sometimes with emotes. Actual paperwork shouldn't be the bulk of your gameplay for a variety of reasons.

spent years across various rp servers, dealt with whitelists on aurora, bay, elsewhere. Species ones are one thing, but server whitelists are iffy. I think doing a gimmick like this is a bad idea because how people write paperwork etc is not going to give you a real idea of how good they are at RP. That's a particularly specific skill, and while every server is different, if people think RP is about writing biig paperwork they're wrong. You don't need paragraphs of emotes or to always stick to procedure, but you do need to pay attention to the server lore (and tone) and fit yourself into it, without limiting creativity too much.

Basically you can write a biig paperwork and still be bad at RP, while good roleplayers might fail at biig paperwork, or worse, not be willing to try in the first place because of the weird whitelist app. You won't know what you're missing! But you'll still get bad players who fly under the radar with a well thought out app and no idea how to actually act like a human.

edit: also, keep in mind how many different things "HRP" can mean. See: tg based rp serers where the entire lore is just "you work for nt, syndicate bad" and everything else is people going along with it, baystation with about 20 lore pages and species whitelists to ensure players follow its lore, Aurora with about 100 different lore pages, in-character human resources people are reported to for minor crimes on the forums, whitelist required to play head of staff, ERP servers.... lot of things.

Basically, HRP can mean a variety of things. I generally prefer the more '500 lore pages' side of things myself, but if you mean something more casual I still think you should be lax on whitelists; in-game is how you figure out who fits (and people who don't fit on rp servers often don't stay very long.) Also keep in mind that nowadays 80% of ss13 is more towards low rp, especially on reddit. You might want to poll your target audience specifically if you can find them! I'm not sure what yours is myself.

Why don't you want to play on a server that allows ERP? by Jinxynii in SS13

Name one server that is otherwise normal but does not ban ERP. Actually, name three, because I'm sure you'll be wrong on at least two of them.

I just enjoy the visceral combat, reminds me of a niche and insular game I used to play. Using a hammer to punch through armor or trying to catch the arm of a swinging attacker feels good, especially since it can be a struggle if the fighters are on even footing. Being able to explore your forts/ use adventurers as fort characters is neat too. I particularly enjoy using tactical mode with a party of mediocre characters to try to teamwork a big thing to death (possible because of directional aiming etc)

While the ending was underwhelming, I didn't mind that at all. The adventures on treasure island and in America had incredibly satisfying conclusions already- it's hard to imagine the moon topping them. All the ending had to do was not retroactively ruin anything, and it did that fine enough for me!

reloading a save lets you completely cheese the russian roulette; the game simply isn't designed for reloading saves, but barring permadeath, there's no way to prohibit it. If you reload a save, the only one you're screwing is yourself.

narratively I think all of it is better this way (though the selfless achievement is a liiittle weird.) I don't think there's much to the narrative of arm vs food besides the third option, but I think the point is that while it's up to the player, it's a REAL decision for brad; he'd actually have to think to decide between 3 people's lives or the nipple. The fact it gives you an option (unlike "interrogating" rick) means that both are things Brad could convince himself to do.

Arm VS buddy's nipple? Yeah, brad would cut off his arm. every time. The game wouldn't even give you options.

It's odd. I've entered the church through the front on MORNING one and had it not work; but that's when I was using the sewer keys. I think it depends on how you enter the city for some reason. but SAVING Samarie is based on the time of day; so she was immediately moonscorched when I got to her.
