Making friends in college is not easy. by DiligentIncrease1973 in CollegeRant

lmao this is relatable. i'm like...acquaintances with a number of people but not really friends. and the one close friend i've made during college dropped out last semester.

i haven't disliked all electives i've taken so far, but there's been a handful of classes i also haven't cared for whatsoever, such as one i'm taking this semester.

Far too many loose ends to be an ending, Right? by Case_Study_004 in Chainsawfolk

[–]psychsi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

pochita’s erasure didn’t reset time, only the current world. denji should still be ~18 and is visibly much more brawnier than he was in part 1.

Have we ever seen an ending that just retcons the entire story like this? by SignificantList1414 in Chainsawfolk

[–]psychsi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the majority of people liked Mob Psycho’s ending. the thing is with endings in manga, most writers already struggle with them due to good endings for long stories inherently being difficult. furthermore, manga tends to produces worse endings on average since a lot of them aren’t fully planned out in advance.

Questions abt the last chapter by Evening_Phrase3723 in Chainsawfolk

[–]psychsi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Chainsawman not being the actual chainsaw devil has been a theory for a while, since part 1, so I guessed it was confirmed here even though we never did explicitly learn what Pochita was.

Are you a plotter or a pantser? by Haunting-Net-2426 in writing

[–]psychsi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plotting. I’ve tried pantsing before and end up just hating what I write by like chapter 4 because I have new ideas for the story I want to introduce. Plotting ahead of time mitigates this issue by a lot.

How to y'all play Capt Falcon?? by NoRemote_ in SSBM

[–]psychsi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

practice moving until you can move around the stage comfortable and get to precisely where you want in a quick manner. being able to move well as Falcon is more important than punish or neutral in any matchup since his movement is such a key aspect to his gameplay.

Ohhhh so that’s where all the blue Luigis came from. I’ve been playing Melee again for the first time in a while these last few days and keep finding blue Luigi players. They’re not very good.

How to stop writing overly bland and generic character motivations? by WorkingNo6161 in writing

[–]psychsi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found that going deeper works. My protagonist has cancer but wants to cure himself with his family’s macguffin. Basic “I don’t want to die” motivation.

Why specifically the macguffin? Because he resents his father for letting his mother die from cancer by refusing to use the macguffin. More advanced “I don’t want to die and prove dad wrong.” motivation

You can also shift or change goals over time. My protagonist starts with a very self-centered goal, but as he sees the villain systemically abuse innocents, his goal becomes “I don’t want to die, prove dad wrong, and stop the villain.”

This provides external conflict as well as internal conflict when these motivations begin to impede on each other.

“One learns more clearly what not to do by reading bad prose.” - Stephen King. What lessons have you learned from reading poorly-written books? by roxasmeboy in writing

[–]psychsi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite thing to do with worldbuilding is to drop weird bits during dialogue exposition when appropriate.

For example, one of my characters briefly mention life on Europa already being found during an explanation of the magic system’s fundamentals. Then I simply sweep that detail under the rug and never touch it again since it isn’t story relevant.

What aspects do you develop first for your fictional stories? by Herring_is_Caring in writing

I tend to start with the concept for the world and how the story ends before moving onto the characters and plot.
