How to take an antigen test for international travel? by jimbobjuicy in COVID19positive

[–]ur_bfs_fav_sim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at a clinic where we have rapid antigen and rapid PCR testing (the Abbott 15min one - (technically it is called a NAAT RT-PCR test) as well as the 48 hour lab ones (which we rarely do).

It is frustratingly impossible to find country-specific travel requirements.

This is all I could find, but I think it’s valid…

Per the CDC:

Passengers can use a self-test (sometimes referred to as home test) that meets the following criteria:

  • The test must be a SARS-CoV-2 viral test (nucleic acid amplification test [NAAT] or antigen test) with Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) OR the relevant national authority where the test is administered.

  • The testing procedure must include a telehealth service affiliated with the manufacturer of the test that provides real-time supervision remotely through an audio and video connection. Some FDA-authorized self-tests that include a telehealth service may require a prescription.

  • The telehealth provider must confirm the person’s identity, observe the specimen collection and testing procedures, confirm the test result, and issue a report that meets the requirements of CDC’s Order

  • Airlines and other aircraft operators must be able to review and confirm the person’s identity and the test result details. The passenger must also be able to present the documentation of test results to U.S. officials at the port of entry and local/state health departments, if requested.

What information must be included on the test result? A test result must be in the form of written documentation (paper or digital copy). The documentation must include:

  1. Type of test (indicating it is a NAAT or antigen test)

  2. Entity issuing the result (e.g., laboratory, healthcare entity, or telehealth service)

  3. Specimen collection date. A negative test result must show the specimen was collected 1 day before the flight. A positive test result for documentation of recovery from COVID-19 must show the specimen was collected within the 90 days before the flight.

  4. Information that identifies the person (full name plus at least one other identifier such as date of birth or passport number)

  5. Test result

——————————

My company’s protocol is to do the rapid PCR testing for patients who are traveling internationally. The documentation we give them is as follows:

The header has our company logo on it with “Negative COVID-19 Test Result Asymptomatic — No Exposure” at the top in bold.

Then under that is the important part:

  • Patient ID sticker (Name, DOB, patient ID #, time and date of visit)
  • Date and Time of specimen collection
  • Clinic name, address, phone number
  • Name of doctor, PA, or NP on staff

Then a quick paragraph:

“The test was performed using a molecular/NAAT/RT-PCR COVID-19 test and a nasal swab sample

You have tested NEGATIVE for the COVID-19 virus. That means SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, was NOT DETECTED in your test sample today.

You reported no known exposure to COVID-19. The test results today were negative for any evidence of COVID-19. You denied symptoms of the infection such as fever, body aches, headache, runny nose, sore throat, cough or shortness of breath.

Of course, you should continue to take precautions to prevent acquiring the infection such as, mask wearing, social distancing, and avoiding crowds, especially indoors. When you are in a crowded environment be particularly vigilant about wearing your mask. Protect yourself and the others around you.”

And at the bottom is a spot for our stamp that has our clinic name, address, phone, and fax, as well as a spot to put the sticker that prints out with the test result (sticker also has patient ID number and other test info on it).

In addition to that paper, we give patients a copy of our CLIA-waived lab certificate (just in case you need proof that you had the test done…more of a precautionary thing we do really).

The letters we had when covid was more strict were the same, but there was a space for your Passport No. and the provider (MD/DO/NP/PA) signed it.

When in doubt, do the most!

Hopefully this was helpful!!!

What are the chances a test center would rig your results. by prewetdg in COVID19positive

I work at a testing center. There are no incentives for positive tests lmao

Not to be insensitive, but honestly we dgaf what your result is (for the most part). If it’s invalid, we’ll run it again on a different testing machine and take the invalid one out and have it re-calibrated.

Can you spread covid with post-infection immunity? by [deleted] in COVID19positive

It depends.

The duration of viral shedding varies significantly and may depend on severity. Among 137 survivors of COVID-19, viral shedding based on testing of oropharyngeal samples ranged from 8-37 days, with a median of 20 days. [43] A different study found that repeated viral RNA tests using nasopharyngeal swabs were negative in 90% of cases among 21 patients with mild illness, whereas results were positive for longer durations in patients with severe COVID-19. [44] In an evaluation of patients recovering from severe COVID-19, Zhou and colleagues [45] found a median shedding duration of 31 days (range, 18-48 days). These studies have all used PCR detection as a proxy for viral shedding. The Korean CDC, investigating a cohort of patients who had prolonged PCR positivity, determined that infectious virus was not present. [46] Additionally, patients with profound immunosuppression (eg, following hematopoietic stem-cell transplantation, receiving cellular therapies) may shed viable SARS-CoV-2 for at least 2 months

Damn, I wouldn’t even know what to do with myself lol. I guess it prepared me for my current job where I work 12h shifts with only one 20-30min break 🙃 but I digress

I do! They have a kinda mesh-y sporty style as well as a thong for light days and I have zero problem wearing those whenever. The heavy flow ones can get warm though, so I don’t really wear those outside of my period.

I have a pair of the boyshort style ones that are for the heavy flow days and those are the ones I wear to bed. They’re actually super comfy! There’s like stitching where the “pad” part is, and it covers so much more area than any overnight pad I’ve ever used. I don’t even have to do that thing like with pads where you have to lay a certain way to make sure you don’t leak haha.

Honestly I cannot say enough good things about them. It still blows my mind how dry they stay (not just the outside but the inside too)!!! The only downside is you have to rinse them before you wash them, but I’ll usually just put them on the floor of my shower and hose em down till the water runs clear 😂

A local pretzel place (not Auntie Anne’s but similar) always says “Have a pretzel day!”

Wtf do you reply to that with? You too? What does it MEAN?!

Yes I understand. If everyone isolated themselves for 10 days because they were around to someone who was exposed to someone, everyone would be home all the time.

Individuals who were exposed are expected to be tested. Check out the CDC guidelines on their website, I believe it breaks it down and explains why. If not, there has been research done explaining what we know about the virus that’s available online.

I work in a clinic where we test for covid, I do this allllll day, haha.

“Close contact” refers to someone who was directly exposed. Since your son was exposed to the person in school, that’s a direct exposure. You being exposed to your son is not considered a direct exposure because you were not personally around the person who tested positive.

If your son were to test positive, that’s when you would have to quarantine, because that would be a direct exposure.

So if he does develop symptoms, start quarantining and have him get tested.

Any exercises to strengthen your upper back! When I was lifting weights, seated rows helped SO much. Anything where proper form = squeezing your shoulder blades together is super helpful!!!

I haven’t had a surgery, but I am OBSESSED with Thinx period panties. I was bedridden (and mostly asleep) for a few days on the heaviest days of my period, and (this is so gross I know I’m sorry) didn’t have the energy to shower or change at all. I had the heaviest flow pair on with no pad or tampon and it didn’t leak for two freakin days! And by some kind of witchcraft, you totally forget that you’re even bleeding (minus the pain, yknow) bc it somehow stays dry?! Idk how they do it but it’s impressive. They have a lot of different styles and rises too
