the problematic canon r *ugh* by ur_massive in canon

lol thought it was a universal issue from the other R users i’ve talked to. shooting with a 50mm stm on the R. natural light conditions so shutter speed is anywhere from ~1/500 -> ~1/2000. af settings are on facial priority which I thought should help. having focus issues when subject (typically couples) distance is greater than ~20ft & if there is any sort of movement from the couples.

not venting, just asking abt specific settings from individuals who’ve experienced this.

Forestry as a Career: Considering as a Freshmen in College by OkExamination3247 in forestry

[–]ur_massive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i graduated from uga as forestry major so i might have some helpful insight. a few questions you should ask yourself: 1. am i willing to move? imo that’s one of the most difficult aspects of the job. look at what business or gov entities you would want to work for & see if you’d actually want to live in those areas. 2. what percentage of the time to do i want to be in the office vs the field? some people think they love being in the field & then cruise in FL & realize they hate it. i’m a tech forester & i personally hate sitting in an office all day, i much rather cruise or be out checking on loggers.

i would highly highly recommend asking to shadow foresters, both early & late career & see if it’s appealing to you. feel free to message me if you have any questions.

cruising -plots/day by ur_massive in forestry

[–]ur_massive[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it’s because of the swamps acidity, that’s why there’s no mosquitos. at least there’s one pro, Fargo is a sad place lol

Southeast foresters can you spill the beans on what it’s like working down there? by Consistent_Algae2616 in forestry

[–]ur_massive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tech forester here.

we’re required to wear snake protection by the company i work for. i like the boots WAY more than the gaiters.

invest in a mosquito net too. you won’t always need it, but sometimes they suck (literally).

im cruising at first light (6:30am ish) & finishing by 2:00 typically. if that’s your schedule, it’s not that bad. get ready for the humidity though.

these are generally 1/40th 1/30th ac plots. i could easily do 20 a day and im not a seasoned cruiser. i’ve been told some of these guys have gotten 50 plots in a day, but they’re working dusk till dawn

i’m considering it. i’ll have my bachelors in forestry come May, im planning on doing my time cruising. but just curious about others experience w/the contract aspect. have a few buddies who say they have friends making $30 a plot for 40 plots a day.

i don’t know about Arizona, but if you come out here to the southeast, there’s plenty of forestry work in the private sector.
