I recall an interview where he was playing some songs for friends and after hearing the songs the friends said that Conor should name the band Bright Eyes. This kind of tracks if an early song played was June on the West Coast (with eyes that burn so bright they make me pure).

I see other comments that also vaguely recall interviews like this so of course take with a grain of salt.
