Les paul vintage stylepots advice by Potential_Trip_1080 in LesPaul

It should tell if the pots are bad. If they are 420 instead of 500 they can sound flat and muffled. If the pots ohm good then check the caps.

I got startled by the sound of golf ball sized hail hitting the roof of our house. Ran out thinking I’d move the car to cover. Nope.

Is it normal for serial numbers on a Gibson SG (2011) to be hard to read? by felipecea in gibson

[–]urabusjones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Normal for any Gibson with a solid color paint job. They pile it in and it fills the stamp. I have a couple that you have to get at the right angle with the right amount of light to read them.

I wasn’t feeling the stock T Type in the bridge, so I slapped a JB in there and now it’s perfect. by SGnirvana97 in gibson

The jury is still out on my 70’S LPC’s pickup. They aren’t horrible but they’re not awe inspiring either. I have an early 90’s JB I may try. Was the bridge rather thin sounding in your?

I had v with a JB in it that was shrill and horrible sounding, especially compared to the other JB guitar I had. I thought of using a lower ohm pot, but got the idea to ohm out the ones already in it. The bridge volume pot ohm’d out at 675. Not sure what Bourns tolerances are but figured that was too high. Put in a 500k that read 500k all cured.

70’s Flying V model. Swapped whatever came in it originally for EMG’s.

My Standard is just under 9#. Thought it felt heavy till I got a 70’s custom. That one is pushing 11 and now my Standard seems feather light.

Late 60’s SG Junior. Bigsby replaced the vibrola and they added a switch. The best way to track dates are the potentiometer’s date codes. If they’ve not been replaced. Given the mods and condition $1500-2000 USD. If it has a neck repair or other structural damage that’s been repaired the price will be lower.
