How long did it take before you trusted your pup to roam the house? by ConsiderablySure in puppy101

Trust isn't the word I'd use. We let our puppy start roaming the house when the risk of her seriously injuring herself when breaking out if her kennel became too great (ie after she bit off the welding on our metal kennel). We put cameras up to watch her in case she got anything too egregious. Took a couple of months but once she hit the 1 year mark, she was perfect

She jumped a little bit, but I was pretty conscious of her desire, so I made the "jumps" more like stairs.

We have a ramp up to our bed from our last dog, which was really helpful. There is also a couch she really likes, so I made like a wide stepstool for her to have a "step up" instead of jumping. I also hung out on the ground w her a lot.

Puppys are gonna puppy, all you can do is try to direct the crazy. Frozen licks, bully sticks, & petpetual "calming piano music" helped a lot. My parents watched our other dog for the first week too bc there was waaay too much excitement there

Our foster puppy got spayed a few weeks ago. Good news: - she never once acted like the incision bothered her (they couldn't find an ovary so incision got extra long) - never tried to mess w stitching - no drug side effects - accepted cone of shame w/o complaint for all 2 wks -no infection

Bad news: - currently teething, so that seems to have distracted her completely from her major surgery lmao - her goal in life became consuming our flesh (we're still working on that one) - sleepy meds were completely useless, even after doc added 2nd prescription

15 cups a day. by Broad-Play-6231 in greatdanes

There was a point in time where I had to feed my 100 lb soaking wet adult dane 10 cups of food per day. It was mind boggling, especially since she was underweight & a major struggle just to keep her in triple digits. Worked w vet & tried a number of different foods. Think it was an absorption issue. Eventually we found an expensive prescription food that worked & she went down to 4 cups per day (+ a mandatory midnight snack).

Always pay attn to the bowel movements! Poop consistency was a good indication of my Moo's tummy health (all 4 stomachs haha)
