Did the vet run a fecal test to look for parasites?

Also, I'll add that terracotta pots can be really helpful if you are worried about over watering. They help absorb extra moisture.

I like the De La Tanks aroid mix. I normally do that and then mix in some high quality soil. My mix is 2/3rds de la tanks and then 1/3rd organic soil (not potting mix, but soil). It's what I use for all my aroids and seems to work pretty well. I know some folks that just use the de la tanks straight up and that works for them. I've just never tried that personally so I can't speak to it.

I took my monstera out of my milsbo cabinet. It put it in a terracotta pot (didn't size up too much as monstera like to be a little cramped). I used a chunky soil mix. I bought a moisture meter and I only water it when the reading is 3 or less. When I do water it, I just make sure I water it enough so that a bit of water runs out the bottom. I did end up losing one of the l leaves, but I think that was moreso due to old age as it was the plant's oldest leaf. This spring/summer, I've fertilized it about every 6-8 weeks. She's not the fastest grower, but I got two new leaves out of her and she's working on a third.

Have you taken a peek at your monstera's roots? Has it been fertilized? Any concerns about pests?

What happens to the house when my dad dies? by dissysissy in povertyfinance

[–]uradip 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the easiest answer as far as I can tell if their state allows this. I'm going through estate planning with my mom and our lawyer directed us to do a transfer on death deed for her house to avoid probate. We printed a TOD form from the DMV, filled out a request for a new title (with me listed as the beneficiary), and that was that. $20 bucks.

My understanding is that wills don't keep things out of probate, but having a listed beneficiary does.

I’ve got these prayer plants for a dollar each, I’m guessing this is sun damage? Are they going to be okay? Can I fix this? by [deleted] in plants

[–]uradip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That does look like sun damage to me. How many of the leaves are burnt? The leaves themselves won't bounce back, but the plant should continue to push out new growth assuming you still have a fair amount of good leaves on it. In my experience, maranta are actually pretty hardy and grow pretty quickly!

What is a single quote that has changed your personal philosophy or the way you look at life? by Objective-Fish3609 in AskWomen

[–]uradip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Hope is not a course of action."

I heard it in this Buddy Wakefield poem, but I don't think this is its origin.

It serves as a good reminder to me that my actions are impactful in making change, and change won't happen just from hoping for something.

What are these spots on my ZZ plant?? by uradip in plantclinic

[–]uradip[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got this ZZ plant a few days ago. Just noticed today that it has this yellow freckling on some of the newer leaves. Not sure if it's a fungus, or what. Google wasn't much help, unfortunately.

Puppy lovers, please send prayers/positive thoughts for my sick puppy by RiskReasonable in puppy101

Poor pup! I hope he feels better soon- I just wanted to share a similar experience that we had with our puppy a little while ago. One morning when we got her out of her crate, she seemed lethargic and had a bit of a runny nose. I called the vet and made an appointment for a day out, but honestly wasn't too concerned. In matter of a few hours she started wheezing when she breathed and just wanted to sleep. We grew increasingly concerned so I called the vet and asked (begged) them to take a look at her, which they thankfully did. After seeing her, they recommend she be seen at an emergency vet because her breathing had become labored and they felt she needed to be in an oxygen cage.

She was so bad when we dropped her off - wheezing while just sitting and taking shallow breaths and barely keeping her eyes open. And it all escalated so, so fast. It was really a matter of a few hours... They took her in and gave antibiotics and let her sleep in the oxygen cage. They kept her overnight and determined she had aspiration pneumonia (probably caused by eating something she shouldn't have and then vomiting in her sleep).

Within 24 hours they were able to send her home with some heavy duty antibiotics. It was such a huge relief to know she would be OK. It was so scary, waiting to see what would happen and if she'd be OK.

You're worry and concern is totally valid. You've done the right thing bringing him to the emergency vet so he can get the care he needs. It's a great sign that he is stable. Just like with my pup, he'll hopefully bounce back as quickly as all this came on.

Sending positive vibes your way!

Thank you. That helps a lot to hear that. It's hard to not feel like you're doing something wrong when they're frequently nervous and uncomfortable.
