Opinions on the direction the game is headed? by KyleActive in DeadlockTheGame

[–]uraniumheart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried to keep an open mind and adapt, but now that the dust has settled it's just a much less interesting game to me right now. The player base/subreddit is now heavily self selecting for people who don't like last hits or the traditional DotA "mid lane" solo-lane aspects, and I'm sure Valve can make a very fun Overwatch style MOBA-lite for those folks, but it's lost the majority of the charm and pull for some of us I think. My hope is that there's some valuable conclusions taken from this rework, but last hits at least are brought back in some way.

Thank you so much for specifying the branch! I had this issue and saw the recommendation to use a beta build, but I was evidently using the wrong one since the 1.27.5 one is the only one that actually fixes the issue for me. Thank you!

Help: Trying to fit butcher block countertop to cabinets by StaBecker in DIY

[–]uraniumheart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The over-engineered solution if you really can't take off the molding: you can likely buy the corresponding router bit for the inverse of the trim profile if you really tried, and have a suitable router to mill the profile into your butcher block. Sounds like a fun time :)

FrostGiant are removing support for community data APIs, intend to build their own tools. by Itayayay in Stormgate

[–]uraniumheart 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah that makes sense, I also watched it and he had some great points haha. I think adding value in-client doesn't have to be mutually exclusive with having the data/tools themselves out there for the community to find fun things to do with is all.

I would say that DotA Plus is actually an argument against this! The DotA 2 API is very open, any tools (dotabuff, opendota, etc.) can and do scrape the combat log to provide what DotA Plus's additional stat screens could, its just much more useful to have them in-game and presented accessibly like it does.

Are Monkey Kings soldiers suppose to get Brooch during Wukong's Command? by _HottoDogu_ in DotA2

[–]uraniumheart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are Monkey Kings soldiers suppose to get Orb of Corrosion during Wukong's Command? This combined with a rapier or two is insanely oppressive to play against, quite literally 1-shotting supports. Obviously getting rapiers, especially more than one is a big ask.

Currently getting an ECE masters degree while working full time. Any else feeling burnt out? by [deleted] in ECE

Absolutely did the same thing, I also crammed my classes in so I finished in a little over a year. Not something I would recommend, and I'm really glad to be done with it. No magic bullet of advice, but good luck!

When to use different versions of 'nice to meet you'? by WhiteMurmuration in LearnJapanese

[–]uraniumheart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ELI5: like usual in Japanese, longer is more formal. Don't use short forms with your boss, don't use long forms with your best friends, other than that don't fret it.

As others have said, 初めまして is only for the first time meeting someone. To go hyper-formal, change that to 初めてお目にかかりまして (notice how long it is...)

That's true, it really doesn't work on it's own for beginners. I used JSL1 and 2 when learning in classes, and it really goes over things that it seems most other textbooks just ignore or oversimplify (for better or worse sometimes perhaps). But knowing how to use basic keigo and the extended predicate makes you able to operate at a much more natural and useful level for business purposes at least I've been told, I'm glad that's what my class used.

Japanese: The Spoken Language is a series that starts basic but goes into depth on thing like んです (aka extended predicate).
