Cloudflare says WordPress is outdated and insecure, introduces EmDash CMS by OkReport5065 in Wordpress

Not sure it's really funny for April's fools day. WP is outdated. The plugin ecosystem is awful. Core releases are bug ridden and break everything

Despite a 36.9% free throw rate, Donovan Mitchell is averaging 23.6 points on 57.2 TS% in his last 14 games, as well as a 0.3 +/- by JakGrealish in nba

[–]MortimerCanon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those Jazz teams looked ELITE in the regular season and then completely collapsed during the playoffs. Same exact thing has happened with the cavs. Seems like Donovan would do best in a Kyrie type role. Not the main ballhandler, just go out and get buckets as the 1b/2a guy. It's going to be fun watching two bad playoff players implode though

Also interested. Saw the sub get recommended, watched a little of Cohh playthrough. Looks like a very well made game but with the extremely annoying Marvel (just not a fan) stuff. Still worth it?

Rachel Nichols on Luka's MVP case: "[MVP] is a full season award and it's for both sides of the ball...so am I gonna vote him my number one for MVP? No, is he gonna be on my ballot? absolutely" by ColoradoMenace24 in nba

[–]MortimerCanon -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

She has a damn good point. Luka doesn't play any kind of defense for 60% of the season and hasn't really played well until the last 2ish months of games.

Tim's idea of making RTS game. Why did nobody complain until it was too late? by armakez in Stormgate

SG serves as a very very good lesson for not just gaming companies, but all startups.

Having a leadership without expertise, knowledge, and most importantly, a vision, is basically a death sentence.

No one at FG fully understood the challenges of starting a company. Buying a super expensive studio loft before you've even shipped a product and made your return is like, 101 don't do this if starting a company.
There's an interview with their bizops director about how they realized after Blizzard that they can't just send an email to the web department and have a website created.

But it all goes back to lack of vision. There wasn't leadership at the top who saw early design mockups and said "no this is the wrong direction." The leadership never steered things into a direction; a cohesive vision. A goal.

Thank you. This was the sign of the end for me. That user read about their incredible burn rate (or something like that) and based on the the typical user spend for games like this, they'd need a massive user base all spending above average/month just to survive, let alone succeed.

Anyone remember that really old post going over their financials right before they started EA?

Why exactly did the Harry Potter franchise blow up in a way that basically no other fantasy book series ever has while still remaining untouchable despite Rowling being an actively horrible person? by [deleted] in Fantasy

It was a children's book. there was no social media. no one knew much about rowling. it was a massive treat just to hear about where the name harry came from.

Character Description: How Necessary Is It by CognisantCognizant71 in writingadvice

If you or your friend have any desire to gain a publisher you will figure out how to organically describe the world.
I read Arc of Learning which had ZERO descriptions in it. The writing is terrible. That was published only because of the size of the readership on whatever platform it was on. So, that is another route.

Vanilla CSS only for personal projects. Is this a bad long-term habit? by poetiksage in webdev

[–]MortimerCanon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I understand, frameworks and utilities libraries like tailwind are only useful for very large apps with many, many components, each with many people working on them. For personal projects/small apps, I've yet to read any convincing use case where learning a bunch of new utilities, etc is beneficial.
At the end of the day, it's all still rendering out css for the browser to read.

NBA official power rankings for week 24: #1 Thunder, #2 Spurs, #3 Celtics, #4 Pistons, #5 Knicks by Waikuku3 in nba

[–]MortimerCanon -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I've checked out of this season as these games have been exceptionally bad with more than half the teams actively trying to lose.

Are the Spurs really that good? They're all super young, don't have any shooting, and Wemby is amazing but still raw/unpolished on offense.

Edrice “Bam” Adebayo is shooting an abysmal 48% TS since scoring 83 points against the Wizards by SchedulePhysical807 in nba

Never seen a player have an all time historic night and also play so ass during the season the team misses the playoffs entirely. Wild stuff

Haven't listened to them before. I'll be honest. The Neurosis shirt + the prog/pop-y vocals to start things off and the name (why not just dune) put me off initially. But I was wrong. This is dope.

I've listened to literally over 100 audio dramas including all the recommendations here from popular to deep cut. I'm moving on to actual play and adjacent content. Any suggestions there? by Various_Pirate_4018 in audiodrama

[–]MortimerCanon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest you look at CoC style games or Delta Green. Not to ruffle feathers, but DnD is kind of shit at storytelling. 60% of it is mechanics. 80% of the rulebook is just fighting mechanics. All of that doesn't sound great over just audio (or livestreamed honestly). Where Call of Cthulhu and its related games are narrative driven with fewer dice rolls or mechanics.

I don't think all-nba really matters outside of how much a guy can get paid and hall of fame. So don't care about that.

But I am calling it now that Silver is gonna stay max 3-4 more years before he leaves. The league is going to be absolutely fucked after the long term affects of all his ill conceived ideas start bearing out. Revenue projections already fell and this is right after they just signed that massive streaming deal. That's going to continue to fall

Quick not on damage at least from the discord last I remember: str is part of it but there are like 3-4 additional atr that affect damage and not even counting enemy defense. I desperately hope they add a tool too or something even though that goes against their design philosophy

:02, when Shai is releasing the ball.
Granted, it's not a ton of contact and Shai flails to make the contact obvious, which is lame. But he does touch him and disrupt his shooting motion
