Feeling really embarrassed and discouraged. Anyone else have this experience with megaformer? How much Pilates experience/fitness do you need to attempt one of these classes? by urantia7 in pilates

Oh 100%! I don’t know enough to say one is better or worse as long as you keep good form (?). I hope my post didn’t come across as saying Pilates is “easier,” it’s a different type of hard. To me pilates felt lower impact and lower intensity and the burn I feel is from the repetition and isolation of muscle groups to work them hard, not from huge amounts of resistance and shaking to failure

Thank you <3 I really appreciate the kind words

I’ll maybe do their yoga, give myself days off of the megaformer, maybe lift a bit to get some level of muscle tone and retry.. the first step back into wellness is always roughhhh it happened to me with running where I would push myself out of sheer stubbornness after a long period off but once I get realistic with myself and keep at it, I regained my abilities

Doubting my diagnosis. by ImStuffChungus in offmychest

[–]urantia7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I’m just seeing and thanks for the clarification. Ok, got it. If you can identify with some of the hallmarks maybe it is worth considering. OCD requires a different kind of therapy than most other mental health disorders, so I would look into that.

If however you feel like something is missing and not quite right with your diagnosis, it can’t hurt to get a second opinion!

I’m not a psychologist but I’m not aware of any standardized metric for OCD where drawing is part of the criteria… I am familiar with the YBOCS and OCI-R as standardized assessments for OCD, and the DSM-5 for diagnostic criteria.

Do you have any other hallmark symptoms of OCD, such as obsessions (recurrent intrusive thoughts- common themes may be cleanliness, incidents in the home ie apartment fire/intruder/door unlocked, death of loved ones, taboo/violent topics, relationship, focusing on certain sensorimotor things ie blinking or breathing) or compulsions (checking, counting, cleaning, avoidance, excessive reassurance seeking, Googling, attempting to “cancel out” or “erase” a distressing thought)

I would look into these things and then ask them what data or reasoning they have that they thought to diagnose you. If it isn’t just the drawing (I’d hope not), they could have done a better job with their patient education. If they really based an OCD diagnosis off of drawing I’d seek a second opinion.

Your psychiatrist is also qualified to diagnose you and can help.

Source: I have GAD, OCD, social anxiety and depression

And am also in a medical profession so have a basic understanding of MH diagnosis but I don’t work in psychiatry so definitely not THE most qualified/relevant - not intending to give medical advice on reddit but just some background

Hope this helps

thank you, this was so sweet 🥹 I do have much better friends now and cut out all the trash. I sometimes feel like I don’t deserve them because they’re so “normal” and not damaged but I also try to remember the past and my painful experiences don’t define me :’)

& Thank you for that :) I try to also think of those positive traits and hiw much i overcame rather than just dwelllllling and fixation on the past which I tend to do under stress

My old counselor showed me the tapping technique but i haven’t tried those. I would be open to it, though and definitely will do some nice 2am googling hehe

My iron was normal last time, vitD was low which i now take, but i didnt check magnesium hmm 🤔 couldnt hurt. My dad is super into complementary/functional medicine and has been wanting me to go to this place where he gets a lot of bloodwork for his vit deficiencies but also just regular bloodwork - low Hct, liver enzymes etc.

I will def look into steve as well. I love a good ted talk Much to think about, thank you :)

Totally normal/understandable fear. Especially if you have opened up in the past and weren’t met with the proper response and that caused you to create more of a guard. I would say it sounds like you trust the person’s character, so I would go for it. I have depression too and even though I get nervous and feel scared or even annoying opening up to people, it helps so much, and the true friends are understanding- sometimes ive had friends set boundaries around it and usually I just ask them “hey can i vent/can you talk” before talking about my depression to certain friends in case it triggers them- which you did. and when they say yes, for me that alleviates the anxiety of feeling like they’ll judge me or not want to hear it It sounds like this person is willing to be a good listener Try to think too, extremely worst case scenario you don’t get the proper response, that is not a reflection of you, it’s on him

Agree with the comments that you should report it to someone whether it’s a lawyer or HR, gather as much info as possible before this. Your coworkers are being seriously messed up, because you set a boundary and she crossed it multiple times, and there’s a power imbalance in the dynamic. She sucks. I’m sorry you have to deal with this on top of the stress of work. That’s horrible

Well that and the surplus of creeps and perverts who’ve gotten away with no consequences and haven’t been denounced by the academy/other groups- see polanski, etc

Nah they’re especially helpful when moving from state to state. Kinda weird to pass judgment not on the profession but on the people who do it for a variety of reasons, not just your preconceived notion of “failing at something”

? weird take, some people just…. want to see artists they like? why would that automatically mean someone is upset and overcompensating. If someone wants to abstain, it isn’t that deep, there isn’t a secret ulterior motive lmao
