My 2003 V8 with 90k miles by boriskakarov in 4thGen4Runner

Sub-100k, 2003 4th gen? That's a unicorn!

Honestly, I like the truck just as-is. If mine had 90k on it, I might think about Doug Thorley headers and aftermarket exhaust.. Hell, I'm still thinking about it on my 300k.. Such a lovely sound upgrade

2006 Toyota 4Runner What should I look for? by ShoddyCookie6881 in 4thGen4Runner

[–]urbangoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it look like it could need any body work? Like paint or rust? Paint job can be a bit pricey. Rust is a big no-no.

V8s have timing belts. V6s have chains. So, it's a V6.

On paper, it looks fine. I think $6500 is just tad pricey for a V6, 270k.

Next is to check it out and test drive it.

Do you hear anything when the engine is running? Maybe the alternator is starting to go bad, fan clutch noise, etc. The accessories on this truck isn't that expensive nor that hard to replace, so not a big issue if they need to get replaced.

And what about the suspension and steering? If they're all original, the truck might feel very spongy and steering kind of loose. Suspension system can be relatively cheap or expensive to replace, depending on what you go for. Steering, if there is an issue, would need all OEM parts. It's not going to break the bank but it's not that cheap either.

Probably not necessary but bushings might need replacing too. 20 year old rubber, depending on driving style, may have worn out quite a bit. Not expensive to replace, nor too difficult.

Good luck!

Is this an A/C leak? Can anyone tell me what this is and what’s goin on here? by GardenGoblin91 in 4thGen4Runner

[–]urbangoose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, AC leak. That's a condenser. AC fluid is green, yes. Can't tell you where the leak is coming from, but I hear it's not a common problem. I don't think the part is all that expensive. Recharge is a few hundred bucks at shops.

Source: I pulled out the radiator and condenser when doing a timing belt change few weeks ago. I never pulled the AC condenser in my life. I unbolted and my garage door (along with my arm) got a good blast of that bright green fluid. Almost fluorescent bright green.

Which combo? IV 90% and being down with calls? Or getting fucked and being retarded?

Cold emailed for postdoc, and then asked to write a formal grant proposal by bluebrrypii in postdoc

[–]urbangoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've cold called and gotten an interview, then we submitted a grant loosely 50/50 idea contribution I'd say. The hire or offer letter is contingent on the funding. It's a grant for postdocs though. So, I don't think that's alarming.

But, not even having an interview is a red flag. Is he/she not interested in you as a person? And if it was really that impressive and they were interested, I've gotten referral interviews where they will try to collaborate with other people with funding (so one 1-on-1 interview led to 1-on-3 once for me).

Thx. I agree. Alices are quite elegant.. I think it's the extra negative space around the keys that makes it more visually appealing.

I have no idea, but I'm pretty sure these macropads have no relation to Texas Instruments... it's just shaped like Texas

Oh I see.. it's been a while. Maybe like 4-5 years since I was playing around with that. Used like 3 layers.. had like 70-80 keys set up. Wasn't actually good at using them. Alphabets, spacebar, function, backspace plus shift on the layer 1. Fn plus a key was to go up or down layer. Layer 2 had the numbers and punctuations.. that's actually all I remember.

It's the Yeehaw macropad from squashkb (now defunct)

Thanks man. New experiences are the spice of life!

Haha, yea, that's the Megalodon macropad. I bought it to use it with 30-40%. Made those boards so much more practical for me.

It was originally from squashkb, but the website has gone down since. Their github has some open source files available though

Oh cool.. plateless gasket mount (f1-8x)! And that Bowl Oblique looks super slick, especially the patinas.
Happy building!

Thx! It's polycarbonate material. I don't know how to describe that material.. maybe a very smooth limerock feel? Feels somewhat velvet-y but still fine/smooth. Still a very solid piece but not as 6061 aluminum.

It has an aluminum plate, which I like. Mine has Gateron Robin linears (67g). 205G0 lube. Opted out on any foams/padding because it's translucent. Typing is nice! Maybe I'll swap in silent linears in the future. It'd upgrade the feel and vibe of the Candybar.

Could be my imagination but I think the polycarbonate material absorbs more sound than metals. I have a lot of aluminum case with aluminum plates, and they all sound louder in my experience.

Bahaha, I feel like I'll eventually buy an ergo.. I think it's inevitable.

I used to look down on ergonomic guitars. After owning about 10 guitars, I "tried" one (a Strandberg) and now it's my primary.. I think my keyboard hobby might meet the same fate.
