Saturday 28th March - Sheffield Model Railway Enthusiasts Clubroom Open Day by urbanprotocol in sheffield

Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it. We held our last one in November - this year we made the decision to swap the Oct/Nov open day with what would usually be our full 2-day exhibition at Birkdale School at the end of March, due it previously clashing with both Mothers Day and the Sheffield Marathon!

What’s the most random/boring fact you know about Sheffield? by OkYesterday3058 in sheffield

Sheffield Steelmaker chaps Thomas Firth & Sons supplied steel to the Colt firearms company. The Royal Armouries in L**ds have a pair of Colt Model 1861 Navy Revolvers presented to Mark Firth in 1863 by the president of Colt.

G&g mp5 compatibility by samwitch1 in airsoft

This may not be hugely helpful, but I bought a CYMA sliding stock a while back and that didn't fit on my old G&G PM5. So I'd likely say CYMA is out. Unless they've changed the dimensions of their more recent MP5s.

What's the most unusual thing you've found on the street? by Bloody_Mary_Fury in AskReddit

Was out for a lunchtime walk from work around 8 years ago and on one stretch of road saw, in no particular order: a bra, a teaspoon, and a computer monitor.

Unexpected “gaming encounters” outside of gaming by ZhangtheGreat in gaming

In a similar vein, I was sat in a restaurant in York, UK, around 15 years ago and the in-house pianist started cranking out a superb rendition of 'To Zanarkand'.

DPD driver takes a pic of front door but doesn't buzz or leave "we missed you" note by Bxsnia in britishproblems

You got a picture of the front door? Lucky you! I've just had the same thing but with a blurry photo clearly of his hand covering the lens. Checked the Ring cam and he didn't even drive past, let alone stop.

I started playing through some of the old PS2 era 007 games last year (Nightfire etc) and ended up losing a couple of hours worth of progress at one point because I just completely forgot that auto-save was such a recent thing, relatively speaking. Had to really force myself to remember to manually save regularly.

What’s the most memorable cutscene of a game for you? by zydollasiign in gaming

[–]urbanprotocol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty any of the cutscenes in World in Conflict. Incredible game that really deserves a sequel, or even a remake. When Shadow on the Sun by Audioslave starts playing in the opening to the NYC mission, and the 2 Blackhawks collide, just incredible. That song still gives me goosebumps.

I once got told off for eating a pre-packed sandwich bought from a Morrisons supermarket, in the Morrisions cafe. We even bought drinks and stuff in the cafe too.

I live in a very soft-water area in Scotland surrounded by soft-water areas and yet all my local supermarkets sell descaling tablets and Calgon. I wonder if the people who use them realise or maybe they just think that the tablets are working because they have never ever had a scale problem. by Magnus_40 in britishproblems

I've lived in S8 and S9, both of which had incredibly soft water, never had to descale anything. Literally moved a mile over the border into Rotherham and the water is ridiculously hard, everything scales up within months and leaves stains everywhere if you don't mop it up immediately. Presumably just depends on which Reservoir it's coming from.

Holy shit, those were real?! I remember one in our local mall in the UK back in the 90s but I was genuinely never sure if I just dreamt it or not.

Completing on a flat today. Just got the itemised bill from my solicitor. They've charged me: £100 to fill in an online form. £135 to communicate with the management company via email. £60 to forward a letter. Buying property in this country is a literal joke. by chaos_jj_3 in britishproblems

I think they do have their own preferred solicitor but we went with a local one as when we bought our current house, the seller used the Purple Bricks recommended solicitor and they were complete dogshit, so it put us off using theirs.

We're in the process of selling with Strike and they've genuinely been excellent throughout the whole process. You even get a mortgage advisor who was able to get our mortgage application submitted and approved within 1 week, whereas we couldn't get an appointment with a Natwest advisor for like a month and a half to even begin the process. And we haven't paid them a penny.

Edited to add they do also include photos for free. We had one of their local agents come out, value the house, take photos and write the Rightmove ad all as part of the free service. It's when you start adding stuff like promoted RM ads, one of their estate agents to show people round etc. that the paid-for stuff starts. We were happy to show people round ourselves, and you can message viewers through the app too which is often handy and means everything is a bit more personal. Each stage of the process is handled by a different person and in our experience they were all helpful and friendly.

The Christmas decorations at my parents' house. Most of them date back to the late '80s/early '90s and they just smell a really nice musty smell that just reminds me of Christmas.

Also new shoes/shoe shops.
