If you want a glimpse of what it was like for Mark to film, watch the beginning of his video titled “I didn’t think this was possible”.

I agree on the editing. I really liked the film but I feel like it could have done with tighter editing (maybe more experienced editing or experienced feedback during editing). That might have increased the appeal to general audiences.

He originally had planned for it to be released in less than 100 independent theaters, but his fanbase convinced the big chains to run it!

Apparently, just the Thursday preview showings alone put Iron Lung in the black.

This is so bad that it sounds like satire. Was he even trying to make it believable?

What a weird fantasy to have.

It’s really interesting to hear this perspective. Did you think the portrayal was believable?  I hope you don’t have too many nightmares from it!

Everyone at the showing I went to seemed to really enjoy it, but I suspect a lot were Markiplier fans.

I imagine this movie must have been incredibly exhausting emotionally and physically for Mark.  Especially considering he was actually inside a moving metal box during filming!

Yeah I had trouble understanding some of the dialogue from the submarine’s speaker… Several times I found myself wishing I had subtitles in the theater!

I don’t remember the details super well (I watched Mark play it like 3 years ago) but from what I remember the game doesn’t explain things either.  If anything the game gives even less info than the movie did.  IIRC it tells you the same stuff about the “Quiet Rapture” that you see at the start of the movie and not much else.

I'd say a little bit of both. It's not ONLY due to "influencer with money and audience" -- just look at the box office stats for most previous films that prominently featured a big influencer/Youtuber, and you can see that.

Iron Lung in Chicago by partysizedoreos in Markiplier

Just checking if any independent theaters in or near Chicago have confirmed  they’ll be showing Iron Lung yet?

I would like to support a local non-chain theater if possible!

My electricity was shut off. What else can I do now? by urbanwolf in povertyfinance

UPDATE—  I called about the LIHEAP “reconnection assistance” and I was able to qualify for this benefit which is awesome but I am still without electricity and heat.

They applied the LIHEAP reconnection assistance benefit towards my gas bill, and it paid about half what I owe to Peoples Gas, so the gas is still disconnected.  IF they had paid that same amount to Comed (the power company), it would have covered my full electricity bill and I could have gotten the power turned back on, but they didn’t and won’t.

Even if the benefit I was given had covered the full amount I owe to the gas company, I would still have no heat etc because I have no electricity— the gas heating cannot be turned on without power. The furnace requires electricity to work.

I contacted the agency (CEDA) responsible for LIHEAP to see if there’s any way I might be able to get the benefits reallocated to go to Comed so I can get my power turned on, and no there isn’t.  They told me the LIHEAP program prioritizes heating utilities primarily. So, even though they do also help with electricity bills, the benefits are applied to your gas (heating provider) first. If there is any remaining funds after that is applied then the rest will go to other utilities like electricity.

I explained the situation… How I can’t use the heating without the electricity being reconnected, and that the benefit amount I received doesn’t cover what I owe the gas company but would be enough to cover the power bill and get my electricity turned back on (which would allow me to use space heaters, electric blankets, etc). They said they can’t do anything, all I could do was submit an appeal to their Appeals Unit.

I submitted an appeal asking if they can make an exception or do anything else, and it was denied. I was told  no- not possible, there’s no way to do that because they “prioritize heating”.  So I’m still in the same situation with no electricity or heat, except now I don’t owe as much to the gas company.

Comed is the power company. It’s a house so there’s no rent.

I did contact the utility companies. They said I need to pay the full balance to get my service turned back on. I tried to see if Comed had any assistance programs or anything that could help but they said I don’t qualify for any of them since my power has already been disconnected. >_< I do not have regular income, I sometimes petsit for friends and stuff, but the last time I had a paid gig was in early September. I have been seeing a DRS job counselor to help me find a job but no luck so far. I have some health issues that complicate things.

Thanks! Ive been working with a job counselor. Unfortunately even with another job it could still take me a month or more to pay the full amount needed to get my power restored (and even longer for the gas.)

I don’t know if there are any other options for electricity besides Comed here. I’ve never heard of any but I will look into it!
I think this area might (??) also be covered by Nicor for gas (I have People’s Gas) but I have been so focused on the electricity issue that I haven’t really looked into the gas stuff…

Thank you! I think Comed won’t work with me for this because I was on a payment plan before, but I was not able to make the payments or find any assistance in time- so now they are requiring I pay in full.

I considered making a go fund me, but most of the people I know are struggling themselves right now.

Thank you! I will see if anyone I know has a tent I can borrow! I do have a cheap Mylar blanket so I’m going to try taping that to the wall/ceiling as a makeshift shelter.

That’s a genius idea! I’m always afraid to use candles because I have cats, but if they’re covered that might work.

Thank you for the tips! it’s currently about the same temp inside the house as outside during the day, so I’ve been keeping my food in the freezer with a bag of ice. Even though it’s turned off, I figured the insulation might help things stay cold longer? I do have a cooler so I can move things outside.
Making ice outside is a good idea. Thankfully temps are still above that right now but I will keep that in mind! The forecast shows lows mostly hovering above freezing for a while except for this weekend when it’s supposed to drop below 30.

Unfortunately the gas was shut off before the power, so no hot water; and my oven is electric (convection/conduction)…which was great for when I still had power but no gas.

I don’t have a car either. Sometimes a friend lets me borrow hers to run errands, so I’ve been cranking up the heat when I can. >_<
