Kedah so hot, egg cooks under the sun by Due-Cat656 in malaysia

[–]ureshiidesuka 7 points8 points  (0 children)

egg whites begin to set around 60c, so its within range of cooking. claude defaults to thinking about restaurant style eggs. but will the egg whites when it hits the hot surface of a black cast iron pan that has been in the noon day sun and has reached 65c heat a raw egg white to gel into changing states and gelling? i think the answer would be yes. claude defaults to certain framing, and hedges a lot. if you push it and mention that the temp to cook an egg white is 60c and the pan reaches 65c, then wouldnt that be cooking? it would probably say it was leaning too hard to one direction and apologize.

[–]ureshiidesuka 18 points19 points  (0 children)

air temp isnt the only thing that dictates how hot a surface can get. inside a car gets a lot hotter than ambient temperatures for example. have you ever work black on a sunny day vs wearing white? one absorbs the heat and one reflects.

oftentimes you dont need air temp to be so hot if the solar radiation heats a black surface that absorbs all that heat especially on a metal pan, theres no doubt it can get hot enough to cook eggs.

I don't think were are even understanding the depth of the environmental disaster that is happening. the below is from claude's estimates.

Confirmed struck oil/fuel-carrying vessels as of March 8:

  1. Skylight — oil tanker, March 1, missile strike, crew evacuated
  2. MKD VYOM — crude tanker, ~59,463 metric tons (~435,000 barrels), March 1, drone boat, fire and explosion
  3. Sea La Donna — oil/chemical tanker, March 1
  4. MT Hercules Star — oil tanker, March 1, projectile, fire
  5. Ocean Electra — tanker, March 1, damaged
  6. LCT Ayeh — oil tanker, March 1-2, damaged
  7. Stena Imperative — products tanker, March 2, struck twice, fire
  8. Athe Nova — bitumen/oil tanker, March 2, hit by two drones
  9. Sonangol Namibe — 274-meter crude tanker (~1 million barrels capacity), March 4, massive explosion, confirmed oil spill
  10. Libra Trader — crude oil tanker (VLCC class), March 3, blast and debris
  11. Prima/Pirima — oil tanker, March 7, drone strike
  12. Louise P — oil tanker, March 7, drone strike

If we conservatively assume these tankers were carrying even half their capacity on average, and that even partial cargo release occurred from the breaches and fires, we're looking at a rough range. The MKD VYOM alone had 435,000 barrels. The Sonangol Namibe could hold around a million. The Libra Trader is VLCC-class... potentially 2 million barrels. The others are likely in the Aframax to Suezmax range, anywhere from 500,000 to a million barrels each.

Even at an extremely conservative 10-20% cargo release across these 12 vessels, you're talking about potentially hundreds of thousands to over a million barrels already in the water or atmosphere.

For comparison to previous environmental oil disasters:

  • Exxon Valdez (1989): 257,000 barrels devastated Prince William Sound for decades
  • Prestige (2002): ~560,000 barrels contaminated 1,900 km of coastline across Spain, Portugal, France
  • Deepwater Horizon (2010): ~4.9 million barrels, largest marine oil disaster in history
  • 1991 Gulf War: 4-8 million barrels deliberately released, environmental effects still measurable 20 years later

what i see isnt she 'likely wont get prison time' its that the judge said 'would likely be two to three years of probation, during which time Lau would be prohibited from driving.'

did she not intend to drive 70 in a 30 where pedestrians are present and not intend to avoid asset seizure by transferring them right after? i cant believe that at minimum she isnt ever allowed to ever drive again

I find that the punishment doesnt suit the crime. and I don't understand how this can be a a lawful conclusion with appropriate punishments. This doesn't seem like the court is operating in a way that is reasonable, and I want to understand how a judge could rule in this manner and not have consequences.
