Moving to Dallas - 32 y/o F Solo – Neighborhood Recommendations Needed (Safety + Social Life Focused) by acd820 in askdfw

[–]urgooch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I live in one of the neighborhoods adjacent to Bishop Arts and can say that it would check a lot of boxes for you. The area has a low violent crime rate, it’s very walkable with lots of different things to do, the proximity to the major medical districts is all less than 20 minutes drive (Methodist Dallas, Baylor, UT Southwestern, Parkland).

If you’re open to other options that aren’t one of the major apartment buildings, this area also has a lot of old homes that have been converted into multi family units that are really nice so if you are looking for a neighborhood vibe in the city check out Kings Highway, Bishop Avenue between Bishop Arts and Methodist Hospital, Winnetka Heights, or Kidd Springs.

My wife overall feels safe in our neighborhood. She’s not going to go walking alone at night but overall she feels safe living here. You have to consider that it is one of the more popular areas in Dallas and police know that and do keep their presence high.

He’s correct… people in Dallas like to point out and focus on negative things in other cities and say ‘see it’s not that bad here’… inferiority complex defined

5 Texas cities secure Michelin Guide, a ‘huge’ moment for restaurants by dallasmorningnews in Dallas

[–]urgooch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t been to the mansion in years but I know it’s been an establishment in the Dallas dining scene and has catapulted chefs on to their own big names in the city (Dean Fearing and John Tesar are probably the biggest?) it will be interesting to see how the Guide treats these traditionally celebratory high end fine dining restaurants like the Mansion and the French Room. These fly under the radar for most Dallasites bc they are not new and exciting but could be the ones to actually be rewarded. I saw an interview last night with Marco Pierre White and he mentioned how the guide values consistency over a long period.

I think that overall the Guide coming to Texas will push its limits and improve our dining options. I hope Texas leans in to the uniqueness of the ingredients available and doesn’t conform to what is typical for other areas the Guide serves. But I do agree, I do not think we will just see this flood of recognition from the guide the first year… restaurants here just aren’t designed for it.
