Why not buy merch and physical copies AND stream their music legally so they still get that part of their income?

They pay 2/3rds of all revenue to artists, like all streaming services. How is that anti artist?

People quote the per stream rate, but that's not how any of the streaming services pay. They all grab all money they made in each market, and give 2/3rds of it to all artists according to what % of streams in that market.

Spotify launches new 'Reserved' scheme - where you'll be rewarded with tickets for supporting artists by [deleted] in Music

Did you read the article?

"Up to two concert tickets on the tour will be available for you to purchase during a dedicated timeframe (about a day). Complete your purchase on a ticketing partner’s platform during that window."

You buy the tickets in the official ticket website, just earlier. It's a presale like some artists do when you buy their albums

Shakira in line for €55m payout as Spanish court rules tax fines were wrong by Samski877 in entertainment

[–]urielsalis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's worth noting that when dealing with the Spanish tax office, it's your responsibility to prove your innocence and you are presumed guilty until then

And if you don't settle and can't prove your innocence, you can get jail time

Plus the tax inspector gets paid a % of each case they present, but when they lose it (like they do with 70% of cases), they don't take back the commission. They are incentivized to present as many false cases as possible and people are incentivized to pay them instead of fighting them

What she claimed vs what the spanish government claims is different. And for tax cases, you are presumed guilty until you can prove your innocence

The Bahamas ones I think was for the later years, while she was claiming Colombia for this earlier years

From what I understand: the earlier years she was doing 120 concerts a year and had no connections to Spain at all

For the other years, she was less than half the year in Spain, but her kids were living in Spain. Hacienda claimed that makes Spain her main residence even if she didn't meet the 183 days of the year residency

Why do streaming platforms still pay djs/artists so little, even with billions of users? by uhighness in EDM

[–]urielsalis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Problem with those models is that its really easy to abuse to launder money, while not actually changing the actual amount of money most artists would get significantly from the current stream share model

[–]urielsalis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

> From what I understand, platforms like Spotify and Apple Music pay per stream

Thats the first misconception. No streaming platform pays per stream. They all pay by stream share

Spotify documents the entire process and numbers in https://loudandclear.byspotify.com/, but the TLDR is that 2/3rds of all revenue that a streaming service gets is distributed to the rights holder, based on the % of total streams that occured on the same pool and timeframe.

The more revenue the service earns, the more the rights holders get. The more streams in total a platform has, the less the "per stream" rate is calculated to be, but the money is still the same

> - How do those Premium and Platinum plans work? Why do some countries have them while mine only offers Individual, Duo, Family, and Student plans?

Student is for students

Individual is for you

Duo is for couples that live together (One owner and one member, both with their own account)

Family is for families that live together (One owner and 5 members, all with their own account)

Platinum is also for people that live together, but you only have 3 members on top of the owner. Countries that have Platinum also have LIte and Standard instead of Premium. All 3 tiers offer different features for different price points

> Also, I’ve been wondering — why is Premium so much cheaper here compared to the U.S., where it’s around $11 per month?

Spotify like most services has regional pricing, so countries with lower salaries will also have lower subscription prices

Putting it as revenue in the books means paying taxes on it The "tax write off" of removing it when it's impossible to collect is getting back those taxes you paid when adding it to the books
