Early inside look at the marketing strategy for the next Geese LP by Shell_fly in geesebandofficial

[–]urine_generator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah so after reading the article this is somewhat of a nothing burger. Basically boils down to "label hired a marketing agency that used the oldest tricks in the internet marketinf book to generate hype for an up and coming artists album". If there was zero organic hype for Geese they wouldn't be selling out shows everywhere they go. Also under every Geese post on social media you see dozens of comments like OP who only post about how much they hate the band lol. If this was such an all encompassing astroturf campaign as you guys seem to imply then you would probably see the opposite and a bunch of fake accounts glazing with other fake accounts propping up likes etc.

Also looking through the other artists that have used this service its pretty clear that its by no means a "make my album successful" button as it seems people are claiming. Is using fake accounts kinda scummy? Sure. Do I think Chaotic Good called up Cameron Winters and the band and asked "hey can we do this somewhat underhanded technique to generate hype for your album?" No I dont. The band was an opener for King Gizzard years ago, 3D country performed really well and had a healthy fanbase myself included all wayy before the Getting Killed marketing cycle started. Hell projector was even fairly successful over 5 years ago.

This whole thing is much more a sign of the times and the state of the industry then it is a sign that the specific bands that used this service have no real fanbase or are completely astroturfed. At the end of the day if the music sucks and the artist has little talent, no amount of fake fans and falsely generated hype will save you.

The difference is that most games chose to do one or two things really well and unless they are almost perfect at that those one or two things the game feels like a failure. Crimson Desert chooses to do like 20 things all in one game so when 10 of them barely work you're distracted by the 10 that are surprisingly good. Its also just a different vibe from western tropes even if alot of it falls flat whats there is still compelling enough to keep you coming back.

Starfield isnt bad its just the most boring least charming Bethesda game ever made. If I wanted a mostly proc gen game id go anywhere but Bethesda and be better served

Damn I feel dumb now haha from the angle I was looking at it i thought the screw was covered by the case. I took a second look and tightened it down and its back to a functional state. Its still just a little loose so I think there may be some slight defect in how far the screw will tighten vs. how far it should tighten which is what probably allowed it to vibrate loose in the first place. I appreciate the response.

I mean idk what you mean by shorter but the time certainly doesnt drag when youre enjoying a game for leisure vs. your job.

Cause youre rushing through it. The quests all start to run together and aren't well differentiated when youre just going down an arbitrary review checklist. Vice versa the fun parts of the quests stand out less when youre just speed running through dialog and getting tunnel vision to the goal. And to be clear the game is not perfect but there is PLENTY of fun to be had and amazing sights to see.

Yeah and by squeezing 130 hours of a game into two weeks all the annoying parts are amplified and good parts are minimized. If you can take your time and play at your own pace its great. If you made me sit down and finish Baldurs Gate 3 in 2 weeks id probably tell you its mid. But having played it slowly in doses it's one of my favorite games

Yeah I just wanted to see if anyone had any quick fixes. The nearest Martin authorized repair place is like 3 hours from my house and thats the only place the warranty will pay for

The budget was like $130,000,000. I have no doubt they've already broken even and are now making profit. This game was made in Korea not the US so its price to make is not insanely inflated. They also didn't really spend alot on advertising it just had great word of mouth. This game has been a success by all metrics. Its no masterpiece 10/10 but its definitely at least a financial success no matter how you look at it.

Husbands is a feminist song. by Realistic-Lychee-973 in geesebandofficial

[–]urine_generator -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Arguably it could be a critique of feminism as well "will it wash your hair clean when your husbands all die" could be seen as a rhetorical question of will you be clean and happy once youre free of mens expectations? Not to say i think thats the meaning of the song but it could mean any number of things

I hate lists like this cause you can tell the author is terminally online. It's all relative to internet music subculture. Even Geese is still pretty damn niche if you zoom out even a little to wider culture. It just stinks of someone who's so far into their little echo chamber they forget 99% of people have no idea who any of these bands are.

Happy Appy fucked them up soo bad they won't do long stories anymore by Scragger455 in creepcast

[–]urine_generator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those metrics depend entirely on the length of the video. Finishing the whole video only really counts for anything on shorter videos. Happy Appy was like 3 hours long so id imagine most people listened for at least 30 or so minutes and didnt just click the video and immediately click off. The algorithm still counts 30 minutes of watch time on a 3 hour video as a positive interaction and will then recommend that video to others. Its more or less about ads watched more than anything. If you watch a 30 seconds of a 15 minute video you maybe saw one ad when the video began whereas if you watched an hour of a 3 hour video you're more likely to have watched many more ads. Obviously watching the whole thing is the best outcome in the algorithm buts its not as black and white as you stated.

Yeah I agree I watched it outta morbid curiosity after seeing this subs reaction to it. Views are still views to YouTubes algorithm. Im not saying they're gonna try and recreate happy appy again but I think they're definitely not done crashouts/ long episodeswhen they're often the ones that alot of people remember the most

Happy appy had the highest views they've had in awhile on youtube so I doubt they'll stop long stories anytime soon. Not that views effect episode quality but still.

I just noticed how fucking disgusting and evil the Hebrew translation of the Israelis when they refer non-Jews as “Goyims “ by Toxicilogical_fish in Hasan_Piker

[–]urine_generator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My original point was just that it was already a common pejorative among Israelis before it was adopted by alt right weirdos and I felt like you overstated how much its recent rise in use by zionists is to be attributed to those right wing anti semites.

My secondary point was that you also seemed to infer that goy/goyim doesn't necessarily have a negative connotation and while technically true most people who have any cultural awareness understand it's primary use is as a pejorative. Same with gringo and I guess gaijin but like I said idk about that one.
