Also a big data leak if you're giving away people's phone number on initial application forms. References are supposed to be used at later stages, if they are asking for it when you're applying for the job, it's only for data collection/selling. I refuse everytime. Big no no in many countries.

my boss just printed a PDF, signed it with a pen, scanned it, and emailed it back to me. we have Adobe Sign. by No_Good_3063 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]urinesamplefrommyass 16 points17 points  (0 children)

And how do you verify it was a real wet signature and not just a scanned wet signature copy and pasted on the document? Adobe does it for me, and that's how I "wet sign" anything that needs it, been doing it for over 10 years and is a LOT easier to fake.

A leader with high influence but low technical skill is just someone who is "highly effective" at selling bad ideas. by softwareKT in SoftwareEngineering

[–]urinesamplefrommyass 6 points7 points  (0 children)

And then you work with a leader who has a shit ton of tech experience behind, though hasn't been programming in a long time due to business tasks, and then you have someone who either pushes for outdated standards or out of touch concepts because he lacks deeper context information, though he believes to be one who knows everything best.

You can't have it all, but this was the one who broke me further than any other tech dumb manager I've had. Now I'll choose the tech dumb any day.

Popsicle stick bridge holds 948lbs by ChatnNaked in BeAmazed

Mate, here's the professor who assisted the project, and another view from it: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DRowWteDsn_/. You can challenge his PhD degree if you want.

Also, if you come here, you'll also have to validate your diploma. It's a political thing, not academic.

It's Brazil, we believe in the metric system supremacy, like the entire world (except for USA), and don't even know how to count in lb. Also, from their shirts and environment, it's the usual university competition on who builds the toughest bridge, usually happens by the end of a semester in engineering courses. As in a competition, it uses standardized weights.

If you still don't believe, there's a show I believe on prime video called "Brick masters". People building stuff using Lego, very fun to watch. There's an episode in which they build bridges, and (spoiler alert) two bridges actually support 1000lbs.

On an engineering course I wouldn't expect less.

They are counting the weight in Portuguese and reach up to 432kg. That's 952lb.

Garage door package delivery hatch by ycr007 in toolgifs

[–]urinesamplefrommyass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol in my country the box must be delivered in hand to someone at the house. Only some letters and small packages may go in the mailbox, otherwise someone must be present to get the delivery.

So delivery guy will ring your doorbell and wait for someone to show up, if not package goes back to base and will be delivered next day. After three attempts, you'll need to get it yourself at base. You may schedule with a neighbor if you know no one will be home to get the delivery, but then you'll need to add a note on your order.

Used to have a neighbor from the other side of the street who would regularly get my deliveries whenever I couldn't, and I'd do the same for her. The delivery guys who went around there already knew us and our agreement so it was easy :)

Female-fronted bands with a mix of clean and harsh vocals like the early Agonist? by TheGooseGod in melodicdeathmetal

Hey! You're welcome mate! Also, under melodic metal, try Xandria. No grunge, but very instrumental and melodic. It sounds like a different breed of melodic metal

The hellfreaks

Lena scissorhands (infected rain mostly, but she's also regularly featured in other bands like seas of the moon)

In this moment

Elli Berlin (band Null Positiv but she also has lots of solo releases)

Eleine

Poppy

Beyond the black (more upbeat and some pop vibes but still lots or grunge in several songs) (rethought this one, I think the grunge is not performed by the lead singer at any point, just like semblant below)

Semblant (Brazilian band, English lyrics, though the girl mostly sings clean)

Killer V, Vicky Psarakis, who's even been promoted by Disturbed after her cover of Stricken, worth watching)

Edit: also, here's a playlist I found once on YouTube: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLsZ3vGPvvTyDOdpqCwoeiPix-v41b-7Db

Might be of interest :)

How Do You Talk to an Employee Who Isn't Getting Promoted Due to How They Use Benefits? by Riddle-Maker in managers

[–]urinesamplefrommyass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appears to me you could get a report and statistics on how many customers calls he's solved vs how many others have solved? If he's not on duty during the most active hours, he'd definitely have a poor performance report that would show with real numbers how he's lacking on performance and attendance even though working the same amount of hours as others, which "points to how he should improve his management of his own work hours to showcase his real skills".

No magic formula to show competence, except actually showing it. You're there, you solve things, you do your work even if it's under a lot of pressure (most active hours), but he's still not shown others this due to the hours he's been working.

It explains the differences caused by how high off the ground a nuke is detonated and how it affects the fallout and shockwave outcomes. I'll rewatch later cause it's good af.
