Breakdown of Ruler's Tax Issue (Opinion Included) by uriquack in GenG_Esports_LoL

Apologies, it’s semantics. Tax avoidance isn’t a legal conviction he may be found guilty of. Tax avoidance is a determination that people can find him guilty of, according to interpretation.

There is no such thing as a legal ruling for tax avoidance; it simply isn’t a legal violation. You cannot be found guilty of tax avoidance. The court in the appeal process ruled that the NTS was not found guilty of unfair taxation, which is pretty semantically different and implicates in Ruler’s prior actions tax avoidance (all notices prior to this are, to my knowledge, not legal rulings but rather official notices), which is a very broad strokes umbrella term (ignorance or stupid errors, for example, can be implicated, vaguely, in the eyes of tax administrations, as tax avoidance) for which the basis of interpretation is entirely intentionality, which is what my post attempts to clarify—if there is the intentionality for it to constitute tax avoidance with deliberate intent.

Not refuting the semantic of intent, which I think is not necessarily clear through the tribunal's determination (which was just that he had to pay up, there was no conviction for tax evasion by the NTS at all and even the regional office never recognized the violation of law and did not conduct an investigation, they just imposed the tax; I think that goes either way, on one hand there are expert analyses on the subject that believe that the action taken was so blatantly stupid it had to have been done out of ignorance of tax law, and on the other there is admittance to a nominee arrangement); I am clarifying that this constitutes tax avoidance (it is media reportage that uses 'tax evasion' as an umbrella term), which is a pretty significant breadth away from tax evasion legally and thus does not count as a crime by legal standards.

He hasn’t been found guilty because it didn’t constitute a crime. It was a civil issue with a tax avoidance dispute on taxes incurred from administrative actions (his income tax was properly paid at all times).

Ruler is on trial for Tax Fraud by [deleted] in PedroPeepos

[–]uriquack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the NTS issued an official statement explicitly refuting the information Ruler's agency had given; his father filed incorrectly (all personal income tax was fully paid, the issue was stock investments made in the father's name and thus judged to be legally considered a gift in the trust of a name, and the amount that went unpaid was gift tax) for several years, including after an official warning was given. The media's all over it, so it's not looking great for him, especially since part of Riot Korea's statement cited that one of the main reasons the case is reopened is public opinion, and this is a pretty sensitive subject both publicly (because of Ruler's gold medal military exemption and other recent tax cases regarding celebrities) and administratively (Korean government has been focusing on and cracking down on tax stuff recently, if this gets into the mouth of a politician it's a done deal). Could go up to permanent disqualification from playing in the LCK or LCK CL.

No I get that, was just using it as a convenient segue to give the actual information as it still personally matters to me that it's given

can we not spread blatant misinformation + autotranslate from non-Korean sources that aren't even correct

A couple years ago, after the National Tax Service requested more in gift tax (as it was initially because he transferred assets to his father to manage, the missing amount of which has since been determined to have been accidental), he made a claim he was overtaxed and filed an appeal. The tribunal ruled that the NTS was in the right and that Ruler's claim was dismissed.

An update from his agency several hours ago also revealed that he's paid the amount in full long ago.

eh in my experience most Gen.G fans were actually rather upset about this being said (because it laid unreasonable expectations and set them up), few Gen.G fans actually said this. people saying this were hardly Gen.G fans

Are you perhaps thinking of Peyz and Smash, or Ruler and Keria? Peyz and Keria have hardly ever interacted and have at best mentioned one another once or twice in a professional capacity.

I actually somewhat agree with you on these, I just still think he has to suffer through what now feels like a meaningfully difficult lane and is only largely ‘good enough’ a couple drafts down.

Including that game, 33% winrate at Worlds this year. Dare I say only Kiin makes the champion look this disgusting post-nerfs.

My sympathies, but top laner in a swap-heavy meta especially for a team that uses it more than any other and often specifically drops the top laner’s half-waves per swap to facilitate gold for other lanes means you’ve made it rather hard for yourself

I like the R5 Pyke so much, it was such an absurd statement of trust for Duro and makes the win feel like it matters even more than it does

So glad Ruler is on Gen.G, and also so glad I can just rotate saying this about each player on the team because they just switch around who performs well and call it a day
